Just bought a new house and thinking about what kind of footing to put in the fenced in dog area. Any suggestions? Pros and cons on certain footing?

Whatever actual surface you decide on, Rellik, can I suggest that your priority is to ensure good drainage ?
Nothing worse in practice than trying to wash down a yard that water hangs about on !  Good luck with your quest for the best material for your situation. Can't advise you further 'cos there are so many variables:  what is good for / preferred by the dogs, what is good for your pocket, whats easily available to you, local climate, etc etc.

I prefer pea gravel for dog runs. If your dogs are diggers, you need to first lay down a base of heavy welded wire so they cant dig down into the dirt.
