Thanks Jyl...I love SchH but the variety of PSA is fun.

Since she was taught a "schutzhund perfect" retrieve in Schutzhund.  In PSA they have a retrieve in the 2's but the object is anything but a dumbell, and they are not as strict with the fronts and delivery...so most don't train for that type of Schutzhund perfect retrieve.

If I go on to the 2's I'm hoping to have one of the best retrieves in PSA lol:-)

There has never been a GSD titled to PSA2! Car and Nightmare are both fighting for that title, I would love to see Ema there with them!

I see what you try to achieve with the bite reward, but unfortunately have you not managed yet to get a association between the retrieve and the reward. The idea is to transfer the drive and energy from the tugging into the retrieve. Using the helper to creeate drive to dumbbell works better when the helper has the dumbbell and this only at the beginning, later you have to jugglle these drives on your own without the helper. Here is a little video clip showing what you can achieve using the drive accumulated in the tug`o`war game.

All the best
Ulf

sorry, cant figure out how to embed the vid??

Nice video....depends on the dog....bite rewards worked best for this particular dog. I have control and do use only the tug at times too. Speed is best with her if i throw in bite rewards every now and then.
