Moderators? by hexe on 28 April 2006 - 02:08 |
| Noticed today that this site now apparently *does* officially have at least two moderators-- Saoa and VomFelsenHof. Have additional moderators been appointed, and if so, who are they? How were the moderators selected, and by whom? Is Oli still the sole owner of this site, or have the moderators bought in on it? Doesn't much matter to me whether the site is moderated or not, but if it's going to be done, then I think it's reasonable to inquire as to who will have the power to alter, amend or delete posts, ads and the like. |

| Hi Hexe, There are now in total three visible moderators. Myself, vomfelsenhof, and vomlandholz. I was assigned this years ago, and its an overwhelming task and asked Oli many times to instate other moderators with more access. Of course, Oli has access to and I believe Disa. Please be aware that all of us are extremely busy, and do what we can when time permits. We keep reading the TOS (terms of Services) and I recommend everyone who is in doubt before placing commentary, do the same. It would safe a lot of time. Yes, Oli is the sole owner of this site. And, NO, the moderators don't own a megabite of it. It's Oli's baby and I hope it will stay that way. |
by VomFelsenHof on 28 April 2006 - 02:26 |
| Oli selected the moderators. I did not ask to be put in moderator status, I suppose he's just read over my posts? I am happy to help when I can. |

| I want to thank you all. There have been some good posts, angry posts, and uncalled for posts. Some items removed that needed to be and some removed I wish had stayed. Anyway it goes, please stay consistent and eventually things will settle and move forward to the great interactive site it can be. I do apprecieate access to this site as a reference to the great breed of GSD's. |

| Thank you for replying, Saoa and VomFelsenHof. It is helpful, I think, to finally confirm that the site IS moderated (as time permits, of course...doubtful that any of you, or Oli, or Disa, have the time to hover over the messageboard all day long!), since that is an issue that has been debated often. Perhaps the knowledge that this is officially a moderated message board will aid in getting the participants to exercise some common sense and some tact. |
by vomlandholz on 28 April 2006 - 06:06 |
| Hexe, one can hope! :D I'm sure we'll have to keep pointing out the TOS until people get used to it. I know I'm on quite a few times a day as well as vomfelsenhof and saoa so hopefully this site can get back to what it's supposed to be, an informative board for all gsd lovers. |
by Brittany on 28 April 2006 - 06:28 |
| What kind of informative is this board about? It seems that only Good and positive are allowed. I still think it should be alright and Okay for a member to post in Xray pictures of their dogs... regards if they are bad. I still cannot understand why Saoa removed them. Oh well.. right? I strongly feel that this should be a democracy forum. everybody should be involved, not just the moderators. It makes the board better, right?!?! I do want to congratulate both vomlandholz and VomFelsenHof for being new moderators. |

| Hi, I thought the site needed more moderators, I had initially (2 years ago) appointed a few of them but only Gina is still active so (and does a good job), I thought the system needed some more. the thing is that I employ a couple of "Brute Force" cleanup scripts for the system,. Since they do not use any kind of intelligence it is good to use a human touch also. For instance. in the market place. a script runs that simply deletes all ads with the same title, same advertising text, or no text. Since I do not want this system to be banned (in search engines) due to explicit language, I also to a mass delete on whole posts using certain keywords. There are more scripts I emplo, but the abovementioned should give you an idea. So its quite important to also have dedicated people who can moderate single posts and with such at least keep the thread alive. Regards Oli |

| This is a brilliant resource for all GSD lovers and Oli must be applauded for the effort put in. It is imperative that the site be kept clean and informative. Language and substance require to be kept within the norms of decency and propriety and I am sure with the new moderators in place we shall have a democrat norm of discipline functional very soon. Congratulations to the new moderators and best of luck. |

| This is more directed to Oli but... If this site is finally going to be strict about following the RULES then I/we need help with contacting other members. OLI, you need to give us the ability to edit our email address. I have a new one but I can't edit it so no one can reach me if I can't put it in my post, this makes it extremely difficult to communicate on this message board. Please fix this option. Thanks, Mel |
by Oli on 28 April 2006 - 17:27 |
| Hi Melody, Yes, I have been asked to provide this function. I will implement this but I am still wondering how to best go about it. The world of pedigree breeders is filled with competition (often of the negative kind) and I need to be sure that it will not be missused (for instance, register with a real email and then change to a non-existing one to gain further anonymity) I will probably do so that when someone request an email change it will be treated as a new sign-up (i.e. a confirmation letter will be sent and account will be on hold until confirmation) Regards oli |

| Hi Oli would also be great if every member has to have their eMail visible and also their IP address. That way abusers can easily be tracked. |

| Yes...or at least some way for moderators to know who is posting. |
by neuen-polizei on 29 April 2006 - 01:37 |
| Isn't the moderation being a bit over done here? Posts are being deleted that contain ANY links... not just the ones with urls in the signature, promotional, or affiliated posts. Looking at the TOS #8 as has been pointed out many times today.. the last sentence would seem to make it OK to give a link regarding the posters question. You can no longer answer opinions on dogs...In TOS #15 this is suppose to be an interactive forum. Why can't the vindictive or flammatory posts be removed and the poster warned or banned from any further postings as to TOS #'s 9,15, and 20? Jeff |

| Jeff, We're doing our best here to help keep this site running smoothly, without constant aggravation to Oli. He has plenty to do without people constantly griping to him about things. Be happy for the FREE use of this website/messageboard and follow the rules! As far as removing vindictive or inflammatory posts, we are doing our best! However, we too have lives other than being on this website 24/7/365, and sometimes things are bound to slip past unnoticed for a short period of time. Feel free to EMAIL someone privately to tell them something if it's really going to make someone else email us to have the post removed because it's against the Terms of Service. Remember, we're all here to learn together. :) |
by vomlandholz on 29 April 2006 - 02:48 |
| Jeff, Unfortunately when someone asks about a dog, it's normally being done with if anyone has had dealings with this person, or this person stole from us, etc. People have been using this site for their own personal agenda's against other people. TOS 15 also refers to treating people as to how you wish to be treated, and sadly too many times this hasn't happened. Well I would hope people wouldn't want to be treated the way some have been on this site. As vomfelsenhof mentioned, we aren't on all the time, but I know I'm on at least 5-6 times a day min to review things and edit if needed and you can always email. I believe the goal is to get back to decent productive discussions and away from the bashing of breed clubs, breeders, etc. There are other sites to do that on. Now hopefully we can get back to what this board was intended to be. |

| neuen-polizei, I do not think that the moderation thing is being overdone now on this site. Just a few days there was a major court decision in Germany that determined that the web site owner is personally responsible for any and all content of any post on his or her site. This type of ruling is likely to to appear in most other western countries eventually. So, I think that it is a good idea for Oli to run this site as he is now doing. And I think the moderators are doing a great job. It is so refreshing for this site to no longer have all the previous vicious personal attacks that were once its trademark. Hat's off and thanks to the moderators and Oli for doing a great job! |

| I was only giving suggestions. I'm not too sure the need to point out that this is a "FREE" site, I am fully aware of that fact. Being a forum, I shouldn't have to e-mail someone that has posted in the forum. It defeats the purpose of having the forum to begin with. Also, constructive criticsm is different from bashing/flaming a dog or its owner. When showing or trialing a dog, the judge gives the strong and weak points of that dog/handler team. Why can it not be that way here if it stays constructive and ban the ones that do nothing but bash others? I am in no way trying to say that you 3 aren't trying to do your best and mean well! If that upset you, that wasn't my inent and I apologize. Jeff |
by vomlandholz on 29 April 2006 - 03:51 |
| I didn't take it that way :) I don't mind heated discussions but they have to stay civil. The email is for posts that get out of hand and the mud starts slinging, lol. |
