Gosh Policewoman, if only the rest of us were just like you, right?  What's it like to walk on water (or at least think you do).  I wasn't going to post anymore on this thread but you just can't stop goading people with your passive aggresive, judgemental bs, huh.    As it has been said, take a good hard look in the mirror.

Once again, sueincc, you couldn't have proved my point any better if you had tried.

Policemom,

Thank you for the nice responce and once again thanks for bringing up those wonderful OLD (LOL) memories of Rin Tin Tin.

A lot of posters here are a lot younger and didn't have to suffer through watching TV that had only three stations ABC, NBC and CBS. That was it in those days, channel surfing involved three stations, no need for TV Guide.

And we had to actually get up and change the channel!  My brothers and I took turns being the "remote".

"The reason is you never know who is reading these posts and I did not want to hurt anyone's feeling if they happen to have one of these dogs.  I can't even imagine how that would hurt someone, especially if they bought one of these dogs solely because of it's heredity."

Funny you never mentioned all your "concern" before.  Enough.  Stop.  It's obvious you are reaching & it's obvious you & I are never going to see eye to eye on anything.  I guess we just rub each other the wrong way.    I'm calling a truce.  In the future I will be more than happy to ignore anything you say that for whatever reason irritates the f&*k out of me,  if you will do me the honor of the same.  In the words of the immortal Rodney King "can't we all just get along"?  In case you missed it, that last sentence was said  with  my "tongue in cheek".

good post policemom :)

Ninja - I am one of those who is of a younger generation that kind of missed alot of this.  I thought the history of this post was very interesting and I enjoyed it.  I personally dont think the dogs look that bad - but then again I am one for an older style and I could care less about color for obvious reasons...I do have a beef with the pricetag though...but at the same time they are not the only breeder benefiting from a name or a brand.

One of the things I like about the GSD is that despite the relativley short history compared to other breeds it is a very rich history :)  This is just another chapter in it.

sueincc I did not think it necessary to mention my "concerns".  I thought it was obvious in the manner that I post that I don't say negative things about others kennels or dogs.  I do disagree with you that we don't see eye to eye on anything.  I've seen many posts by you where you do say positive things to others and help with your good advice.  The things we DON'T see eye to eye on are when you put others down and say negative things.  I was raised with "if you don't have something nice to say don't say anything at all."  Because of this I bite my tongue when I feel the urge to express something negative, whereas you just let your fingers fly.  A truce is fine with me if you feel you can't say something civil.  However, I know I can.  I don't "walk on water".  I just try to be respectful of others on here, even if they don't treat me the same way.  Sometimes I fail.  I'm only human, as are you, and I think that for the sake of "humanity" we all try to practice self control and restraint when it is called for.  Think how much nicer this board would be.

Ceph,

Back then even well to do families had only one car and only one phone. Also they had one TV. No fast food. A few pizza places were about it.

When you were sentenced to your room it was punishment. Now a days a child's bedroom has a color TV, DVD player, cellphone, Computer, digital camera etc., etc., etc. They can hold up for a week and not be bored. Anyway with so few options back then whole families were glued to the TV when one of the few good programs were on. It was that way with the Rin Tin Tin show and that show really helped create the demand for German Shepherds in this country. Life was far more simple, there was less stress. You could let your kids walk to the bus stop without fear. On my way to work now a days every child I pass, that is waiting for a bus is accompanied by an adult. It is terrible that were have evolved into this kind of society.

Earlier people were posting about Jim Beluchi and the movie K-9. I was sure that I had heard that he bought the dog after the movie, so I was searching the internet and came across an article that said the original intent of that movie was not to let the DOG steal the show, but he did. A while back there was a thread about celeberties that owned GSDs and I'm sure he (Jim Beluchi) was one of them.

I wish they would start a new cop or detective series that featured a GSD, I think it would be a hit.

That is one of the worst examples of a BYB puppy mill I have ever seen.  I wonder if the original RTT is rolling over in his grave. The original RTT was an interesting story, the rest of the web site is puppy mill and marketing ploys.

Last show I was in love with was Due South. Wasn't a GSD but a beautiful Husky. The show was family friendly. At the time, no one I knew watched it but me. I guess it was too cheesy but I liked it so much I looked for DVD's to buy online, now that I can't find it on Television. I understood it still ran up in Canada. Before I moved to Germany I even taped a few episodes to keep me company. Some stuff just gives you teh warm fuzzies. You can't put a price on that!

lol - when I got sent to my room my parents made sure I wasnt doing anything but sitting in my bed and contemplating what I did wrong...but you are right about punishment these days - I have even said it myself...what is scary is that I was one of the Cadre SGTs training last years freshman class (Senior Military College) and you can already see a major difference between my generation and the generation two years later...my mind was boggled.

I was also one of those who got mildly annoyed when my parents walked me to the bus - I kind of hope I can live in an area that is more like those old times...the stories about Rin Tin Tin are something I really cherish though because it is that era that I am personally fond of.

I loved the movie K9 - I saw it for the first time last year and I got a kick out of it.  The dog was awsome.

I also think you are right about having a new series with a GSD - I really think it would be great and definetley something I would watch when I wasnt studying.

I have to take exception to your post. There were not three stations. You left out PBS. :)

I suppose you were one of those neanderthals who watched Johnny Quest instead of The Electric  Company??

Actually, I think I was the only girl I knew who liked Johnny Quest. Ahhh, the good old days.

Do Right-You rock. It's refreshing to see some one do something because they want to. Not being worried about what some one else thinks. Good for you. Not that you need an attaboy for being you. It just struck me as being very cool.

Sue- I see your point totally about the way RTT's legacy is being milked. He was awesome. This dog wasn't him. Not a complicated concept. I don't like the idea of some one trying to insult my intelligence with their marketing ploys. I'm not a terribly sentimental person in a lot of ways and tend to look at a lot of things differently than others. But, I can see where some folks might just want to be mellow about the original and think about the marketing at a later time. Maybe that's what happened here.

I loved Rin Tin Tin as a kid. And the Bionic Womans 6 Million $ Dog: solar-powered GSD. RIP.

4pack, i loved Due South too, very good writing and the dog was great (although they said he was wolf - nah). and Allabouthedogs, i'm a girl too and i loved jonny quest (madly in love w/race bannon!) may favorite episode was the komodo dragons. even bandit was funny, tho i wish there'd been a gsd. i watch k9 whenever they show it just to see jerry lee. the only downside to a popular show w/gsds would be the (bigger) increase in non discriminate breeding. i remember 101 dalmations. alot of those dogs ended up in shelters and rescues. i'd hate to see more gsds end of abandoned.
