"My Knight in Furry Armor..." I like that... hope I was still a kid... |
by angusmom on 25 June 2007 - 03:31 |
i like the "knight in furry armor" too. my 14 yr old son is wanting to see a new movie called "black sheep" (i think) about sheep in new zealand who go nutso and carnivorous. sounds funny and probably very gross and bloody. i do miss rin tin tin and bullet and lassie et al. i have to admit, cujo kinda freaked me out on st bernards for a long time. i was in new zealand once, and i think the sheep do stalk people! geez, they're everywhere. ah well, we have to pay our respects to our past and somehow reconcile our future. even if its carnivorous sheep. |

lol - my second emphasis in Animal Science is Sheep Production (behind Equine Production). Sheep dont know any better - they must be the dumbest mammal in existance - though I will tell you that it is a hoot to see them flipped on their butts to get their hooves sawed down - they look like lazy fat old men reclining on a couch :p Now pigs on the other hand - pigs be dangerous - pigs are actually the largest cause of farmer deaths by farm animal in the country - scary huh - I didnt feel like higging wilber a whole lot after that....and they will eat you. (hops of the tangent). Knight in Furry Armor - lol, thats cute - I think my mutt is my Knight in Furry Armor - but if I had to pick a TV dog it would definetley be Rin Tin Tin...I wish there were more wholesome dog movies out nowadays...I miss movies like Lassie and Rin Tin Tin - its movies like those that really show us why we love dogs so much - and show us why in so many ways dogs are better than ourselves...its that loyalty and the unconditional love despite our imprefections. ~Cate |

There's no question that RTT had a deep impact during his acting career, and was an excellent ambassador for the breed. I'm glad that his story is preserved. As to the breeding of his progeny, that I am not so keen on. Truth be told I'm surprised to see so few people questioning the quality of these dogs, so far removed from the Great One. If I posted a litter announcement anonymously for $3500 puppies out of untitled parents with no breed survey, no conformation rating, questionable hip/elbow status, washed out pigment and/or white coats... I would be flamed to oblivion by both working and show line crowds. Sorry, but I've seen too many posts flaming people who breed dogs "not to the standard" and "not titled" to expect otherwise. Cherish the memory of RTT and the benevolent image he represents. Make your own judgements on the breeding program. Yvette |

Thank you Yvette! |

I checked out their website. Those are the ugliest looking bunch of GSD's I have ever seen. No standards in that breeding program other than "lets make sure there is some trace of Rin tin tin in the pedigree". $3,500? Gimme a f'ing break! Those dogs are equivelant to any backyard breeder. Shame on them! |

I believe the original Rin Tin Tin was not used in many movies or shows because his coloring was too harsh for black and white TV, so they found a "new" rin tin tin with more washed out colors that looked better on screen. But besides that, Either one of those dogs died decades ago, not 2 weeks ago. I haven't seen a Rin Tin Tin movie or show EVER, although the show did inspire my aunts and uncles who were all born before WWII to name my Dad "Rusty" who was born after my grandfather returned from POW camp in Germany. How exactly is "this" dog an American Icon??? I believe that dog died long ago. By their logic I could change my dogs name Mink and sell more puppies from "Mink" just because he's in the pedigree and I used the same name?? |

Come on guys! We're not trying to have a discussion about the breeder...can you please take that somewhere else...maybe a new thread so the rest of us can enjoy talking about the dog rather than sifting through comments that put a major damner on the discussion...can we get through one thread without beating it to death? Is that even possible? ~Cate |

How can you love this breed and at the same breath celebrate a breeder who obviously isn't doing good by the breed? Memories and tv shows blind you to what this breeder is doing? Even if you got a few people just looking to bash something, I don't believe you should ignore what they're saying simply because they don't sound nice to your ears. |
by policemom on 25 June 2007 - 19:09 |
This post is NOT ABOUT THE CURRENT BREEDER. |
by Puputz on 25 June 2007 - 19:17 |
You could have chosen a better link if you wanted to talk about the original Rintintin. The link in the first post clearly leads to a dog owned by this breeder. |
by policemom on 25 June 2007 - 19:28 |
Actually the link itself is to the history about the dog. Obviously you clicked on other links on that page. |

Actually the link itself is to the history about the dog. Obviously you clicked on other links on that page. Actually the link goes to a page about a dog that NONE of us have ever heard about until that page. The dog that everyone remembers and grew dear to their hearts and made them fall in love with the breed died in 1936 (i believe) and another one in the 50's, so at least 5 decades ago. It's evident that the "breeder" is cashing in on a name created by a much different dog, and by much different people than her. |
by seriously on 25 June 2007 - 21:15 |
Those dogs are turds........definitely BYB material cashing in on a name of a dog dead long ago and nothing else. Should never be bred.

Policemom, Please go back and read all of your past posts on different threads, check and see how many times you wrote about something entirely different than the thread was originally intended for. I've already checked, you're guilty. Also you posted a link and are people not allowed to look around the website? My God, take a step back and look in the mirror. You're mico-managing a thread you started. Which I might add was very good. Everyone including myself who grew up watching Rin Tin Tin loved the show and especially the dog. I thank you for this thread! People are going to have different thoughts and ideas and they should be allowed to post them. The problem here is people attack the POSTER rather than the POST.

Ninja181 I'm guilty as charged. I was just trying to keep this post "on track" and not have it turn into a bashing session against the kennel. I, too, have the same opinion as alot of people on this thread as to the quality, or should I say lack of, of this particular kennel. That, however, is something I chose up until now to keep to myself. The reason is you never know who is reading these posts and I did not want to hurt anyone's feeling if they happen to have one of these dogs. I can't even imagine how that would hurt someone, especially if they bought one of these dogs solely because of it's heredity. Think how we all would feel if the kennels we purchased our dogs from were publicly ripped apart and trashed. I am NOT defending this kennel and it's practices; far from it. I guess it is too much to expect of some people to refrain from making derogatory negative remarks that hurt others. Of course this is a public forum and everyone is entitled to voice their opinions. I just think it can be done in a kinder way. But I guess you can't change a person's upbringing and have to tolerate their lack of an intellligent way to express themselves in a cordial and humane way. It's sad to think that some of these people who use obscenities and rant and rave and do nothing but post negative remarks are also charged with caring for our beloved breed. I hope they treat their dogs better than they treat people. |
