Most of Science Diet food is crap and corn-based. I would be more concerned with calcium percent than protein in any food. I feed my dog Acana now, and as a young pup/dog he was on a moderate protein, fish-based adult food with zero growth problems.

I agree with the Ester C helping Pano. There also have been studies that suggest Ester C may also help with hip and other joint problems.
Raw is a wonderful way to go for feedings...if you are already cooking meals for him you might want to give a raw diet a try. No need for sweet potatos or beans in his diet-dogs do
Not process grains and veggies like we do and they are basically fillers. Since we switched to a raw diet we have seen a difference in our dogs from their costs and muscle tone to no doggy odor and clean teeth. Many feel they see less cases of Pano on it. And added bonus is Even finicky eaters generally will gobble up a raw diet.

Those pasterns look fine to me!

And you sound like you are doing all the right things for him as far as exercise goes. Read my comment in the other thread -exercise has a great influence on pastern strength (dogs kept in crates had pasterns that were very weak, while littermates were normal.)

In the photo, your dog looks within normal range for GSD's

Pastern are supposed to slope 20 to 25 degrees, depending on the standard you use.
Hind legs are also just fine.
Don't worry.
