How much? by GSDguy08 on 03 June 2012 - 00:09 |
About how much can I expect to pay for a young, working line, Schutzhund titled female? At least a SchH1, BH, x rays done, etc. It won't be this year, but hopefully if all goes as planned sometime mid next year I will be looking for one.

Putting aside the etc., I would say approx. $3,500.00.

Depends on the dog. I would expect 3-5 grand, depending on the line and the dog itself. If she's got excellent lines and excellent hips and drive, probably the higher end. Also seems to depend on where the dog is from. JMO. I hope you find a good one! |

Thanks. That doesn't sound that bad price wise. Of course I will go out and see the dog in person as well and see it work too.

When you pay that much for a dog, is it always perfect? ie no hip problems

Good luck! I have been looking for a young, sch 1 or equivalent male. I am willing to pay more, but they are tough to find.

Davren, I've seen them at times in advertisements on this site itself. However there is never a price listed. Not sure if you yourself are looking for a showline or what though. Eldee, is it always perfect? It would already have it's OFA's on it's hips......or an a stamp if imported. I would not buy anything that wasn't at least OFA good..... or a1

I would say that would be on the very low end, though of course there is a HUGE range of quality among titled and xrayed bitches. If you want a surveyed bitch of high quality, then expect to pay a bit more. Also keep in mind the value of the dollar if you're buying overseas. That can really affect the price.

Jenni, price really won't be an issue. I will want to see the dog personally though if I'm going to pay a lot. Has anyone on here gone to Germany or the Czech Republic when looking to buy a dog? Or has anyone on here personally bought from someone in either place?

I know of a friend who bought an import untitled pup with foundation training and excellent hip prelim's which was just over a year old and he payed 3k. Looking at the dog itself we all think he got a bargain price for top quality. If your looking for a Sch/IPO 1 with good hips expect to pay at least 4500+ especially considering what the dog has and brings with the pedigree. But definitely look a lot cause there can be some nice deals made if you get lucky.

"Price really won't be an issue". Oh, pardon me then. Here I am imagining I'm reading a thread, started by you, titled "How Much?". I must really be losing my mind. Nadeem, that was a good deal- partly because of who he knew, so you're dead on about looking for good deals. Who you know can be crucial when trying to import GOOD dogs...not just titled dogs.

lol Jenni....I would like to know "how much"......Price isn't an issue if I'm looking to find exactly what I want. I just mean I'll pay what it takes, that's all. But hey.....it's good to know you've admitted to losing your mind.....You're past the denial stage :)
by destiny4u on 05 June 2012 - 00:58 |
6-8 grand

You need to concentrate on finding the right PERSON to get a dog from, not the right price, when just starting out. If buying overseas, you'll need to convince them that you're somehow different than every other American know-it-all wanting to breed GSDs and see if you can avoid being ripped off...especially if you present with an attiude of "price isn't an issue."

Jenni, I wouldn't go over there saying that lol. That's the quickest way to get screwed no matter what you want to buy. That's why I asked if anyone had gone to the Czech or Germany to buy a dog......I did get a PM from someone about a reputable person to go through. Regardless of being reputable or not, I will want to see the dog work in person. Ah, I totally did not think of this.......There is someone that use to go to church where I go.....They're related (I won't mention this woman's name) to a trainer/breeder near here who has competed in the WUSV with one of her dogs, and she goes to Germany at times (people who want a dog pay for her trip over there) to see the dogs, and bring them back for different people. I may need to talk to her as well.

Only out of curiosity: You are proud owner and breeder of Huskies; if I understood right, Auggie is your first German shepherd. Are you looking for a female suitable for breeding to Auggie? Start breeding by training and titling your young male, the more you learn about training and behavior of German shepherds, the less is the possibilty to fail in the decision what kind of dog you are going to buy later on. You should be able to buy a workingline female SchH1, KKL2, hips and elbows okay, for about 3000 Euros in Germany. My piece of advice: Come over here for vacation, good old Germany isn´t that bad, and there are clubs everywhere. most of the people speak English, and you don´t need to pay extra money for a broker and for shipping. Kind regards, Susie
