Okay, Dallas (Kismet's Sight for Sore Eyes) shows up on his dam's side twice in the third generation (great grandfather). Can someone please tell me why Dallas DOES NOT show in the line breeding chart??  Thinking  Glitch in the program or something??

I like him. He looks solid, masculine, nice bone and fairly moderate angulation for an ASL. But of course, I'm a HUGE fan of Dallas for some reason... Red Smile Pasterns look a bit down, though, and I could do without the big white patch on his chest.

I still need to hunt up the Westminister footage so I can watch him move.

Edit: okay, I think I understand now why Dallas doesn't show in the linebreeding. He's in the dam's line ONLY, not the sire's line. If he showed up in both lines, then it would be line breeding.

A thread that reaffirms why I'll never buy an ASL. In fact ASL should be excommunicated from the German Shepherd breed!

The breed standard says:

"Inconspicuous white markings on the chest, and "brighter" shades on the under- and inner sides of the dog are permitted but not desirable."

Rumor Has It, might be an all breed dog show winner. But as a German Shepherd, she is a poor example that is not worthy to be bred.

What worries me is with Rumors big win the mass of people who will be looking to buy a German Shepherd simply
because one took best of Show. It happens whenever a popular movie starring a certain breed of dog comes out. For example 101 Dalmations. How
Many of the gerneral public will rush out to buy a puppy from a back yard breeder only to end up with a bad example of the breed and the dog suffers. One sees it happen all the time. Not sure this is a good thing at all for our beloved breed of dogs.

The GSD has been #2 in registrations for AKC for quite some time...this really won't change much

But as a German Shepherd, she is a poor example that is not worthy to be bred.

Because of white on her chest?  This is one of the most ridiculous things I have ever read

Sunsilver you gave the answer to your question about linebreeding... in your question. The answer is because it is on the dams side that he shows up twice. Linebreeding is meant to show dogs that are in both the sire and dams side of the pedigree. But in Rumor's case, Kismet's Sight for Sore Eyes only shows up on the dams side... not the sires

Now if you look at the Rumors' dam Lockenhaus’ Isis v Kenlyn Hi-Cliff, you will see that she is linebred 2-2 Kismet's Sight For Sore Eyes. That is because this dog is in the sire and also the dams side. That is what the dash means. 2-2 means that the same dog is in the sires 2nd generation and also the dams 2nd generation.

The comma is used to indicate the same side. For instance Rumor is
5 - 4,4 Welove Du Chien's 'R' Man. That means that this dog is in the 5th generation on the sires side, and twice in the 4th generation on the dams side.

The PDB Linebreeding chart is correct.  And you got it right in your last sentence.
