I think that since, over the generations, all the dominant black dogs have been bred to saddle backs, Yes is likely a saddle back in genotype that's being masked by the dominant black. He also only produces blacks and saddle backs. I don't think any other color is being hidden.

1GSD1 -- yes, there is recessive black in the GSD breed. That's not in doubt.

I *think* 1GSD1 meant in this case, if what was said before her post is true, then there would be no recessive black because the black in this case is dominant, not that in GSDs in general, there is no recessive black.

I did some more research into Yes's pedigree but didn't care to comment. It's possible that he carries recessive black. There's some dogs in his pedigree that carry it, so he could've inherited it also.
