3 year old male GSD - opinions please?

Nicely done x-ray--very straight. I can't see the detail well enough to tell the amount of "coverage" in the socket on the right side of the image. It looks like the coverage is a little shallow on both sides, however, and there's a fair amount of flattening on that right-side ball.
At the same time, I bet the dog moves soundly--at 3 yrs if there was a lot of laxity then I'd expect to see more remodeling/arthritis. I'd lay my guess on OFA Fair if you send the xrays off.

To my eyes the right side looks not to match (ball looks slightly more out of the socket) than the left side. The left side looks tighter. Slightly dysplastic due to the hips quite not matching?

Absolutely not dysplastic! Probably will rate OFA "good"--remote possibility of "fair". Take a look at these xrays (certainly not bilaterally symetrical--due to positioning--bitch was in heat!) that got an OFA "good" rating:

Why do you come here to ask peoples opinions? Why not just listen to your vet?

There are many reasons not to listen to "my" vet - vets are usually not ortho specialists - neither are "we" on here - but the breeders and GSD folks who have looked at hundreds of x-rays over the years have learned what to look for, as have I. Don't need to be a vet to know, if you have hands-on experience. I am not a vet and I can make an educated guess about what the hips will be rated by OFA - and 99% of the time I am right. I'd listen to experienced breeders about many things before I'd take what the vet said without getting more opinions than just his.

Louise the xrays you are showing have a much tighter fitting of the hip balls in the sockets. Of course she got OFA good and you are to be congratulated.
I honestly do hope the first dog gets an OFA rating.
I am speaking from personal experience. I have had dogs and know of several others belonging to other people which have not passed because their hips did not match and the x-rays were properly positioned. The environment can remodel hips such as too much fence running and pivoting at corners in a kennel, or early jumping work or agility weave poles bad for elbows too or scaling wall One dog a sheltie was a spinner and the hips remodled due to the spinning.

| I like it when people post the x-rays here so I can learn from them. I study them, then scroll down to see if my opinion (for what it's worth) matches the others. In this case it did so I feel pretty good about myself for spotting the irregularity in the right hip. I learn more each time. |

Autobahn, I think a lot of people post rads and already have the results. I like seeing them, the more I see, the more I get a feel for what is "Good" or what is dysplastic, what is ideal or what is abnormal.
It's like posting stacks for critique. We can enter our dogs in shows for a rating and critique but it's fun and interesting here too.
