How do I decide? (14 replies)
|
|
So everyone knows I'm in search of a new puppy. I've been looking at numerous different litters......though I think I've cut it down to a select few. One litter is Frankesco Anrebri/ IVE Anrebri. Heres a video of Frankesco Anrebri. I've been talking to "Rudolf" about Frankesco. Frankesco is a large powerful male, dominant, but a dog you can leave home with your wife and kids ( I'm paraphrasing all of this for sake of time when reading it) I found this video on youtube and you can see the shear power when the helper tries to pull him around. They have told me a lot about IVE, Frankesco, sent pictures, videos, ect. I don't have much time on here because I'm leaving for work, so I've left out most of the information about everything...obviously..... I'm also undecided whether I want a male or female out of the litter. I've considered a female for the future.....thinking of breeding down the road if all of the training, health/hip, ect goes as planned.....Though breeding would not be my first interest, and in a way I would like another male for training and working. How do you decide though, male or female? As always I wish time and money were unlimited, then I would get one of each. Heres the link

Very Nice video!
If I were you and had limited time, I would get a male to start off, cause he won't come into heat like a female, and he can be out & about more which can make training more convenient, you mention wanting another male, do you have a male already?,
If so then you would want to bring a female home with you, but then again, I decided to keep a male from my last litter and alredy have a male, but they are 4 years apart, so the young one should respect the older one
Hopefully your wife is on the same page with you when it comes to training, I've had a few customers tell me that their pup they got from me wouldn't listen to the lady of the house & was walking all over her, eventually with the proper training that issue goes away, but some of the stories, like the pup barking back at the wife and hearing that they put the pup in time out, just doesn't cut it, sounds silly like putting a kid in timeout.
Anyway, you seem to know what you're looking for, go for it, really handsome dog!

Leaving for work in two minutes......I do have a male out of Mambo z Pohranicni Straze, and I'm not married yet....still a fairly young guy. With my work schedule I usually have a good amount of free time for training, playing, ect ect with all of my dogs. I also do rehabilitation work on the side more and more now for other dogs. Just thought I would add that in there. |

If I had a male already and wanted a second dog, I would get a female. It's much easier with two dogs when the are of the opposite sex.

| clifford, I'm 100% positive in selecting from Anrebri. Renata knows her dogs, she is a SchH ref, she has a bronze medal for breeding in the Czech rep, she trains, works with, and knows her dogs very well. I'm not going by video alone, like I said.....I was in a rush to go to work so I only had a couple of minutes to type everything up. I know a lot more about the dogs in this breeding, a lot more than a video shows. Clifford also know this is from Anrebri kennels, in the Czech rep so I won't be going over there to see them. I am confident in Renata though, "Rudolf" has been giving me information because Renata does not speak english. |

Francesco Anrebri,
Based on video:
Nice, physically powerful dog with super high prey drive and great looks typical for Anrebri. It is most likely true what Renata is saying about his social abilities. Renata is a trustworthy person. However as anybody can see; Francesco, at least on the video, is sorely lacking in courage when he is painfully trying to avoid the whip. . That is why he is frantically spinning. And that is what they are skillfully trying to correct in the video. We can see here training compensation mainly based on extra training in high prey which should compensate for lack of courage and fight drive. There is also proper use of negative reinforcement for spinning behavior in order to stop it. Dog wants the sleeve more then anything but is worried by the person who has it on his arm. What concerns me are genetics and not how is the dog going to perform if it is based on, in this case, very excellent training methods. I am judging the dog and not his trainers which are impeccable.
Just my opinion. You be the judge.
For the sake of the breed - Take care!

Where is this dog spinning around? I don't see it on the youtube video posted above. Thanks.

zyna,
Prager is referring to how the dog pulls the sleeve around behind the helper to avoid the stick. The helper can't hold him in place and it is the helper that is actually doing the spinning to keep up with the dog. I don't think the dog lacks courage but it is obvious he doesn't care to be hit.
GSDguy08,
How's about some updated pics of your boy. I'm really fond of his looks. How is he turning out?

I do see how the dog is spinning...but looks to me as if he has just found a clever way to avoid the stick (weapon). But to me he shows no sign of being scared of the stick. Of course his behavior does not look good on the competition field, but is this really all that matters?
My point is that if this were a real life situation and the stick was a real weapon or knife, then would the dogs actions to avoid the weapon not be helpful and even save his life? Its not like he is releasing to avoid the weapon, in that case I would understand why he might lack courage Smart dog if you ask me....but I am stil learning myself. This is just what I took from the video. Please correct me if I am wrong.... |

Kelly,
When training for sport a dog looses points for any sign of weakness or fault in the routine. A judge gauges your dog against the optimum performance he can give and deducts for any waiver of that performance. A truely courages dog gets madder when he is striked ever so slightly and even madder if you hurt him. A dog with less courage and pain tolerance will try to think of a way to avoid the strike and any pain.
In a personal protection trained dog you want him to attack the arm with a weapon or chest or back of the shoulder if the person is running away from the dog. The higher and closer to the neck the better. ( my opinion )
Some police dogs in other countries focus the bite on the crotch so there is very little fight from the perpitrater.
Personal protection dogs are trained to protect a life, not scored on a routine. He is trained in as many real life situations as you can think of and to react to any sign of aggresion. The sleeve is meaningless to a protection dog. He only takes it because it is the first thing he can reach. He rips it off and keeps coming he does not carry it around as a prize.
I would not want that dog protecting me or my family when it got down to life and death that dog would pack up and leave. I want a dog that they can kick and punch and he keeps getting madder and biting harder. The slaps that dog is dodging are not enough to hurt him any way.
Remeber when the going gets tough the tough keep going, the weak run for cover or get the heck out of the way.
just my thoughts, mahon

| I think they should all be taught to bite the crotch. Then if they even thought you had a dog, they would be on the ground with hands out and legs spread. If you have to send your dog, he should be allowed to do real damage without the handler being afraid of recrimnations. |

Female would be my choice as you have a male...dont need testosterone worries....too much dog for two males to run together without you playing alfa 30/7 get my drift.>?
