AKC and the Dutch Shepherd (3 replies)

Anyone know why the AKC has never registered Dutch Shepherds? |

Could you see them changing the Dutchie like they did the German Shepherd? I personaly do not want to see this breed ruined. IMPO

| They're not recognized because the Dutchie is a rare breed in the United States and rare breeds are often overlooked by the AKC. Aside from that many owners and breeders do not want the Dutch to be an AKC breed because of what EK said, once a breed is recognized breeders tend to breed for looks instead of working ability, and the working ability of the Dutch Shepherd is part of why people love them. |

| While the Dutchie is a rare breed in the US, the AKC typically has to find their market for any dog before they will start considering it for recognization in its registries. With that being said they main reason AKC or most other registries for that matter don't recognize them is because they all have been crossed with something else at some point in the pedigree. Even the FCI registered breeders in Europe now have started pulling in some of the KNPV lines to breed to. Every imported Dutchie I've seen has mal and some even have GSD in their bloodline somewhere. |
