Hi there,

I have a 7 year Cocker.  I love him to death... But lately his skin problems are getting worse.  They tell me he has Hyperkeratos and Dermatitis.  He is getting skin warts and his skin is so dry and flaking.  The vet told me to give him Vitamin A, but that was their only suggestion.  I was wondering if anyone out there has any suggestions.  I am feeding him Nature Variety Prairie - Salmon.  I put Mineral oil and Wild Alaska Salmon oil in his food twice a day.  I use Seborra shampoo - once a week...

Any advice you can give me is greatly appreicated.

Kim & Cole :-)

Hi, Kim and Cole!   I have had a lot of success treating allergies using alternative methods.  I've worked with several veterinarians over the last 25 years  who practiced holistically.   In every case I changed the dog's diet to one that I prepared myself on their advice.  The diet had no preservatives or additives in it.  I did use supplements including olive oil, Vit C, multi VitBs and a general multivitamin.   Mineral oil, if that is what you are using, is not intended as food.  Olive oil is a good supplement, however.

If you could find yourself a holistic veterinarian - ones that use alternative methods such as homeopathy or acupuncture - you might find success.  Allergies are treatable, but they require some effort...

good luck

joss
