Grim is one of the most influential dogs in Czech. His descendant Yago Jipo Me was #4 dog in Czech in 2011 and was competing in WUSV in Kiev. There are many other exceptional dopgs from Grim. Famous dogs are over analyzed and often dissed . But they are famous for a reason. Tho say that there are too many dogs in the pedigrees and that may lead to problems from unknown traits I would say that that is a fallacy. All GSDs have Horand von Grafrath and that is not bad. We are using principles of selective breeding and that will help us to take care of problems. Thus I do not understand when people say we have too much of this excellent dog and too much of that exellent dog in our pedigrees. I personally believe that we should be more worry about not so excellent dogs in our pedigrees.

Going back to Grim some
actually start recognizing Grim line. Grim does not increases bad hips more then most. That was promoted by pedigree thumpers who do not have actual knowledge of the facts who assumed that from Grim's father Ben z Bolfu who has officially C hips. The truth of the matter is that when Ben z Bolfu died the autopsy revealed PERFECT hips. The reason for the mistake in evaluation of Ben's hips as "C" is unknown. Probably clerical error. The fact is that for example Dargo Ha Ja Da - son of Grim was hips improver. But Grim produced slightly above average of bad elbows. That had been bred just about out though, but by introducing Grim more then 2 times it could bring this problem to the surface.
There are concerns for example that Gero z Blatenskeho zamku produced bad hips but in combination with Grim - Dargo ( hip improver) that had been diminished to below average levels.

Bubba, what do you think a 5,5 4,5 on Grim would produce? Have you used your male for breeding??? Results? Hips/elbows? Temperament/working ability?

I made the comment just below and let me add that I am not putting down Grim but just pointing out that too much of a good thing is still too much. If others think that Grim improves hips and makes the offspring sweet as sugar please correct me. I have a male who is not line bred on Grim but his dam was 3,3 on Grim. My male is sweet and so is his mother but that is just my experience. I guess I don't have access or knowledge of the Czech system or records so if someone else does please correct me. I would love to be wrong as I love my male but now I have a nagging doubt in my mind about using him for breeding with any matings containing Grim.

According to what I have read and been told Grim brought a lot of working ability to the Czech lines but at a cost. The word is that line breeding to Grim increases the risk of bad hips and handler aggression problems. Given the number of Czech dogs with Grim in their bloodline best to proceed with caution. Several great dogs doing great work with Grim 3,3 but what will be the cost in the following generations if they are used in breeding programs.

Please -- if anyone has intimate knowledge of Grim and his work, please let us know what you think.

This is a dog pedigree, used by breeders and breed enthusiasts to see the ancestry and line-breeding of that individual dog. The pedigree page also contains links to the dogs siblings and progeny (if any exist). For dog owners with purebred dogs this is an excellent resource to study their dog's lineage.
