Sunsilver,

I truly wish you good luck and good health.

This is part of the reason that I am so passionate about maintaining freedom of choice because each of us brings our own story to the table and our own rational weighting of OUR risk.

I am not risk free but my risks are somewhat balanced by several advantages such as blood type O (much lower rate of infectivity) plus my decision equation is also tempered by my legal & scientific training and for me ethical concerns on the creation & testing of these drugs. So as noted above each of us has a unique story and approach and thus imho enshrining the need to protect each of us in our right to our decision.

If you have not, I suggest you dig into the data about low/ high vit D levels and get your level tested. The best cheapest protection especially against serious illness and death is a high vit D level. If you need them I can send you some reputable links. It is now known that we need much much higher levels than previously thought - in the range of 5-10,000 iu a day and it must absolutely be taken with vit k or mk7 to avoid excess conversion to calcium and related heart problems.

I would also urge you to take a hard look at the data on ivermectin both as a prophylactic and treatment. If nothing else consider it as a cheap fail safe insurance policy that hopefully you will never have to collect on but just in case it can be one more thing to try. You have nothing to lose with that approach. You may find that 2nd article above of interest because it speaks to possible protective value.

God bless and safe sailing.

Ps sending you a message.

Here's how we're doing with COVID in Ontario right now. NOT good! The death rate is high, and this Omicron variant is spreading like wildfire.

Needless to say, I'm not going out very much. The weather has been very very cold, too, with temps as low as -18 F/-28 C!

Sunsilver,
I hope you stay safe and healthy. Pretty much same situation here in Québec.
When this thread was started I mentioned that it would sadden me if at the end the truckers demands had been forgotten and the whole situation would be hijacked by all sorts of other groups.Yesterday this was confirmed by several truckers, really sad but that is human nature.
After two years of this pandemic, many things have been said and written. After a while it is easier to see through the BS. I remember board certified doctors advocating the use of hydroxichloroquine and other quick fixes.
I have no intention of changing other people's opinions on this subject or influencing others as I don't posses impressive credentials to do so.Only did one thing in my career,30 years police,10 of which canine handler.Only up side to all that is good at reading dogs and people (I think!). This is all entertaining but in the period we are living in I become less tolerant of BS.
Don't piss on my leg and tell me it's raining. I have read all sorts of articles, hell I even listened to self proclaimed moron Joe Rogan.People changing the goal posts to better suite their objectives.
So bottom line is people can believe what they wish,I will do the same. Not impressed by what you say your dog can do,tailgate drops bullshit stops!

Definitely not MY people!! If you can't respect our war memorial (Tomb of the Unkown Soldier) and Terry Fox's statue, stay the heck away!! :((

Those of you from the States will know just how much respect is shown to the Tomb of the Unknown soldier in their country, with being appointed to guard the tomb one of the most prestigious appointments a soldier can be given. While we don't have same degree of ceremony about the Tomb in Canada, it does have an honour guard during most of the year. (April 9th to November 10th). Yeah, winters in Ottawa are pretty bad...

From the Wikipedia article: On January 29, 2022, a group of protesters parked their cars on the memorial, and danced on the tomb as part of the Freedom Convoy 2022 protest.[12][13]

TIG,

"This is part of the reason that I am so passionate about maintaining freedom of choice because each of us brings our own story to the table and our own rational weighting of OUR risk."

Well said, we each have our own unique risk profiles and risk tolerances when it comes to covid infection, and also when it comes to the possibility of developing one or more of the vaccine-related side effects. The decision to/not to get vaccinated ought to be treated as a personal health choice, ideally made after judiciously weighing one's risks from covid against those of the vaccine itself; considering one's odds of spreading the virus to other vulnerable people if infected given one's lifestyle and associates; the presence/ absence of natural antibodies; perhaps consulting with medical professionals; and the like. Once made, the decision should be respected as such, and accommodated by society within reason. I would argue that a one size fits all mass prescription to get vaccinated or else is neither ethical nor the most effective path to protecting life.

Sunsilver,

I've seen a couple of people now bring up the incidents around those statues. Leaving aside the obvious fact that many in the media are operating under a double standard when it comes to altering statues (think back to what was has been done to the statues of many American and Canadian founding figures over the last year and how the media covered it vs. the current coverage), I am left pondering the following: If he were alive today, what would Terry Fox have to say about the countless cancer treatments that have been delayed due to the policy decisions made over the last two years? Is indiscriminately grinding all of society, including the rest of medicine, to a halt every time we see a spike in cases really worth the human cost? Similarly, what position would soldiers who fought and died in the great wars explicitly supporting our (then) free way of life endorse? These heroes saw a stark real-world contrast between what it is like living in a free society, and what it was like for people existing under regimes where many of the same rights and freedoms that are being infringed upon by the current covid response had been trampled altogether to a much, much more extreme degree. I would, of course, not suggest that the atrocities committed by, say, Nazis, are near on par with what is going on today. But it is worth considering whether the soldiers' basic mission of promoting of freedom and human rights shares more in spirit with the majority of well-meaning protestors currently in Ottawa, or with those who seek to force everyone to choose between a sometimes unwanted vaccine or earning a living, receiving medical treatment, schooling, living under mass surveillance programs, etc. I personally know one soldier who resigned from the Canadian armed forces this year stating that he could no longer serve this government on much the same grounds.

You speak about 'freedom'. What about MY freedom as a vulnerable person, being exposed to the virus by people who refuse to be vaccinated, and walk around without masks?

In my opinion, the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few (those who object to the vaccines.)

Your freedom ends where it affects my health.

As for the statues, the ones that were defaced were of people who helped start the residential schools for native children. Terry Fox and the Unknown Soldier have nothing to do with this protest, and should be respected.

My cancer treatments were not affected by the lockdown, though the scheduling was changed to maintain 6 ft. social distancing, and reduce the number of visits I had to make to the hospital. What HAS affected treatments is all the (mostly unvaccinated) COVID patients clogging up the hospitals!

Many of those who died in the wars from dysentery, etc. could have benefited from the vaccines we have today.

You have your way of seeing it, I have mine.

As for vaccine safety, the risks have been VERY greatly exaggerated. I really don't have the tim to dig up information I've posted in the past when arguing about this, but I do remember the risk of blood clots/disorders is something like 40 people in several million. One woman in 3,000 develops blood clots every year due to the birth control pill, and this is considered a totally acceptable risk!

One more thing to add: some of the protestors in Ottawa were waving Confederate and Nazi flags. Yes, there are quite a few white supremacists and Nazi sympathizers taking part in this convoy.

More nastiness - white supremacist speaks out, gets cheered. Workers at the Shepherd of Good Hope soup kitchen and homeless shelter were harassed by convoy protesters when told the free food was for homeless people only:

My nephew copied this from another person, and posted it on FB:

Some of it is conspiracy theory bonkers, like people being spied on their cell phones by the government, people afraid to speak out in fear of being called 'conspiracy theorists'. Well, I'm afraid some of them DO embrace conspiracy theories - I've seen convoy members holding placards saying they are against the 'new world order'.

And like I said in another post, the reason our local hospital has cancelled all elective surgery and test is because they've got SO many COVID patients that they are stretched to their limits. Surgeries that are urgent are still taking place - the husband of one of my church members is going in for heart bypass surgery this week.

As for staff shortages in health care, this is probably refering to unvaccinated people being fired/told they couldn't work. I feel that if you are going to work with sick, vulnerable people you darn well SHOULD be vaccinated to protect them. When I was nursing I was required to get the flu vaccine every year, even though it would knock me out for most of a day with the side effects. With the COVID vaccines, I've had absolutely NO bad reaction to them - maybe a tiny bit of soreness at the injection site, but that's it. Yeah, I know others haven't been as lucky...

And just how do you protect people in nursing homes if you allow unrestricted family visits? That's what resulted in HUNDREDS of vulnerable seniors DYING from COVID!

Anyway, this probably is more representative of why the majority of the truckers have joined the protest. I certainly agree with some of it, but don't agree with the ani-vaxx, anti-mask stance many of the protesters hold. My nephew is one of those who has refused the vaccine.

I am happy to report protestors are making amends for the disrespect to the Terry Fox statue and the War Memorial:

Apparently the Terry Fox memorial wasn't being well looked after and was covered in pigeon crap!
