Before I ask my dog food question...

Here is a quick over view..

My dog just went to the vet because he is having BAD diarrhea and was vomiting... Right now he is on a bland diet along with some supportive care supplements.. So now, once my dog is ready to get back onto kibble the vet wants me to switch proteins (he is currently on chicken) to lamb.. She wants me to put him on a lamb and rice kibble since he has never had lamb before. It MUST me a single source kibble (just lamb) and rice with no peas or legumes.. The vet wants to rule out any issues with legumes contributing to the GI issues..

It must ONLY have lamb as the meat source!

NO chicken (chicken fat ok)

NO legumes

NO salmon or fish... He gets blow out diarrhea with any fish! However, salmon oil is ok. Give me some ideas please!?

Again it can ONLY be LAMB AND RICE kibble.. Can not have any other proteins mixed in.

I am NOT looking for recommendation on doing a prescription diet right now! The vet wants me to try and lamb and rice kibble!

So  what are your recommendations of a lamb and rice kibble???

THANKS!

Not sure if this is what you are looking for, I used Earthborn grain free Lamb for a while, it did not have chickpea but it did have peas for fiber, no rice, but you could add that in.  My two senior dogs were on limited ingredients because of severe allergies.  I was going to try Grandma Lucy's limited ingredient Lamb formula freeze dried but it was too expensive for multiple dogs.  However my vet recommended it highly, I just couldn't afford it.  I am down to just my girl now for senior dogs and she is doing much better, I had to get her off lamb because she was developing allergies while on it (apparently if they are on a single source of protein for a while, they can develop allergies on it and you have to switch to another novel protein source, she was on it for 4 years).  I am now on Senior fish formula grain free from Annamaet and she is doing well on it.  I know you have to stick to lamb and rice.

Side note, my one vet is a certified nutritionist and herbalist, she suggested fermented goats milk as a probiotic and it has a goofy side effect of helping dog skin heal and remain healthy.  Also organic apple cider vinegar added into food (I used organic broth to hide the flavor) to keep from an overgrowth of yeast which can accompany severe allergies.  So I also added in Honest Kitchen's goat milk powder as an additional probiotic and it has helped their skin like crazy, no open sores from scratching for my girl.  Vet said a good probiotic is a MUST for fighting allergies.  It is a huge boost to the immune system.

I apologize if I assumed incorrectly that you were fighting allergies.  Good luck and let us know how it is going please.

The Earthborn is grain free and HAS peas.. which is not what I am looking for at all.... The kibble must be Lamb and Rice only..

We are not dealing with allergies per se... Last May (2018) my old vet talked me into doing a Lepto vaccine and my dog had a MAJOR allergic reaction to it, which unfortunately caused some damage to my dogs GI track. So the vet is wanting to see if he does better on lamb and rice, since he has been having off and on GI upsets.

So I am looking for ideas on a lamb and rice kibble..

I just looked up the Platinum lamb and rice and it has "dried fish"... so unfortunately it is not a single source lamb and rice food that I am looking for.
Thanks for the suggestion though

Trouble is, almost all kibbles are going to have other stuff in them. Even grain free 'lamb & rice' I can get over here (and USA can't) has other stuff - (vegetable or protein or carbohydrate matter) - in, as fillers / purposeful additives etc.

Have you given thought to the sort of small companies that do "tailored to YOUR dog" individual recipes ? I expect you have those in the States, as we do here these days. Probably rather expensive as a full time option, but just initially to run the trial your vet is looking for, might be worth the money ?

Jyl, What does you vet think of adding in a separate probiotic?  Reason I ask is my nutrition/herbalist vet and the other vets in the practice (most who feed raw or freeze dried raw or dehydrated raw) highly recommend probiotics to severely allergic dogs, especially if it comes to food allergies.  They say it helps the body stabilize and with the support for good gut bacteria and immune system (immune system starts in GI tract) it has proven beneficial in their years of practice for combating severe allergies, I know it has helped mine a lot, not entirely eliminated the allergies, but decreased the severity of their reaction to allergens.  Probiotics have become part of their health program for client animals.

I am so sorry about your poor dog's reaction to the vaccine.

JYL; you are probably going to have to cook the lamb & rice for him yourself and add a vitamin/mineral supplement. Most if not all have other things added vegi, crap you don't want. good luck...

Nans,
It does not matter if there are veggies and other stuff... It just must have lamb and the ONLY meat source and have no legumes! Plus it must have rice as the carbohydrate.

Mindhunt,
As for adding a probiotic I am already doing that. My vet is a very good one and is pretty knowledagble on nutrition. I have been adding a probiotic to my dogs food for a little bit now. I use PROBIOS and he is also getting FortiFlora.

Right now I am just looking for some ideas on a lamb and rice kibble.. it MUST have lamb as the only meat source... and must have NO legumes or peas at all..

The two brands I found so far are Natural Balance LID lamb and rice and also Natures Recipe lamb and rice.

How about Natural Balance Limited Ingredients Lamb and Brown Rice?
