Again, I think it depends on how you define civil. As I said before, dogs will bite a person without equipment due to a variety of motivations. And I think it is overstated to say people in the protections sports tend to see a civil dog as having nerve issues. Maybe more in IPO than other sports. I think the BH is faulty in its expectation for all dogs to be super social or except being crowded by a large group of strangers. You should be able to train through the BH with a sharp or mistrustful dog, but I think the whole philosophy behind the BH creates a mindset in people new to the sport that any unsolicited aggression is the result of nerve issues. Sometimes it is and sometimes it isn't. The handler needs to evaluate the dog in many other situations. Some dogs that are civil have less than good nerves and some have very good nerves. You have to look at each dog as an individual. Not all dogs with a low threshold for defense or correct sharpness have nerve issues, but some do.

so you think Werner knew all border dogs individually, its matter of interpretation of definition as well, there are multiple IPO dogs that I feel have bad nerves, really bad nerves, but they go into avoidance, dont have anything to bring to the table when pressured, Ive said this before, a dog with civil agression and weak nerves will bite you when cornered, a prey dog with bad nerves will, at best, piss himself

this dog had very bad nerves according to the IPO people that I bought him from

https://youtu.be/baTEm1I5xAM

and this ten months old has very bad nerves

must say that several sport people call it bad nerves as soon as a dog shows willingness to bite anything else than sleeve

both dogs come from old lines, first is a fiasko okal son, second an Akim milargo daughter

Duke, some people are stupid...( In case of dogs...).
When I asked a young decoy to agitate my young (8 months), not prey driven showline dog in the dark, without flash lights, without equipment, I had to tell him every single step in the forefield (walk by, no voice, behave strange, run away as soon as the dog reacts...-the old stuff, nothing special), but he really had to learn...

The result: a still civil dog, but trialed within IPO with very good points in C.

People need to learn...
This decoy never forgot...

agree susie, but we must not forget that ideal dog for points and ideal dog for street is not one and same dog,

and I can fairly say that Czech republic has Extremely good IPO decoys, dont know any country in the world that can mach the quality level of, and number of, top helpers we have in Czech republic
