| Did the vet check for tick diseases? |
by Rik on 14 May 2012 - 12:30 |
| pano can travel, but it's usually on long bones and should be evident on x ray. also 8 weeks seems early for pano to start. lyme disease, mentioned by beetree also a possibility. if 3 different vets and 3 different diagnosis, I feel for both the pup and the owner. |

| Walks on hocks? What are the pasterns like? What is the pup eating? Any supplements? Find out as much detail as possible. I just did way more research than I ever wanted to about diet and ligament development due to a close friend's problems with a dog they'd bred (different breed though). The dog had similar symptoms and it turns out the diet was largely to blame. On top of that, the pup was being supplemented with mega vitamins=way too much calcium. The front legs were somewhat deformed looking and the pasterns and hocks were extremely weak. Good news is the dog is nearly normal now, though only xrays will show what permanent damage to joints may have been done. But the dog seems fine, so don't lose hope yet. Could it be neurological? |

| Take a look at This web site ----http://freedomkennels.virtualave.net/ I have a friend who called this lady and also used and did what she said to correct down pasterns that suddely appeared in her dog. Seems to be last of Selenium and too much protein and other dietary components that causes this. Good luck, hope this can help. Rachel |

| pup update ! well I almost had the poor little girl who is thrown out in a pole barn by herself , until I asked for papers on her .The breeder is TTS shepherds and she would rather put her down then give papers even limited papers. I am so pissed because she wouldn't even tell me why, but she did tell my friend I have talked to Wendy for months and even got a x-box female out of there because she didn't like the dog. Seems to me every dog she doesn't like gets put down but yet she claims to LOVE GERMAN SHEPHERDS yah right ! Breeders if you want your pup to live a long life I wouln't be selling one to her......OH Ya !! she did OD the pup with vitamins .. who gives a half a tube of vitamins to a 5-6wk old pup??? |
by AmbiiGSD on 28 May 2012 - 20:21 |
| Take the pup without papers then? why you want the papers if you want to save her? sorry don't get it? maybe it's just me. |
by 4 mals2sheps on 28 May 2012 - 21:11 |
| AmbiiGSD I sure would take w/out papers, but she did not disclose why I counldn't get her, my friend who she told, who was also tring to get pup was very upset over the reason and then told me. I'm just tring to save a life who more than likely just needs time and care when there has been an over dose . |

| I have reading the forums on here for a long time and have never posted but today I will. The one who started this tread 4 males2sheps is Barb Schettek at manitugermanshepherds. Well here we go, I had a puppy that was lame in the start of this problem Vet #1 said tendon need to streach her last growth spert it did not grow. Ok so we gave her pain medicine and a couple of weeks to get better which she seemed to be doing well. I had a guy wanting to purchase her and was told about her front right leg and that she was doing better he talked to Vet #1 and still wanted to purchase her I sold her to him at a much lesser price and without papers. He got her at 2:30 pm on a Saturday by 5:00 pm Saturday night she could not hold up herself with the leg it had done just the oppisit of what it did here with us. He took her into a emergency vet (VET#2) and they said the tendon was to loose and put a splint on it. Xrays were taken at this vet's office and joints showed a little damage the vet thought do to the issue she was having but not the cause. So Monday morning her took her to his regular vet (VET#3) that vet removed the splint and the puppy was walking without a problem (on THAT leg) BUT now it was growling when the back legs where touched and was really aggressive when the vet tried to check the hips (NO the puppy isnt mean she was in a great deal of pain). Vet #3 told him to return the puppy to me because something was really wrong and recommended it be put down. This vet took xrays of back end and of sholders there is a problem with the joints but not the cause of pain in said animal. Something was causing the muscles and temdons to not work properly and to move from one limb to another. I inturn told the gentleman to return her for a full refund which he did and now back to Vet #1. The vet is not sure what the cause of the issue is and put out there maybe I should think of putting down said puppy. I inturn asked for some pain medication and said lets give it some time maybe she will out grow this. When this all started this puppy was 6 weeks old and was TINY when the vets all suggested putting her down she was not yet 9 weeks old. I finally did have her put down when she was 5 months old as the problems where not getting any better yes she lived out in our barn inside a 10 x 20 kennel and was taken outside to walk and play (with the humans) she came in the house with us when the other dogs where in thier crates so no one could hurt her (not trying to be mean just wanting to play). I guess the whole point is BARB if you where just interested in helping this puppy then why did you need papers? This poor puppy had been through enough crap she sure as HE#@ didnt need to be breed which is what you wanted to do. And to poster AmbiiGSD your post and your questions are right on. WHY else, does a breeder want papers folks???? Barb just maybe you should worry about your own dogs first since you are breeding dogs that are NOT OFA'd you should really spend the money on that and how many breeds of of dogs to you breed and how many dogs do you own???? I personally can only handle 6 dogs anymore and they do not get the one on one attention that they need, want and deserve just a couple of questions. And she also says she is emploee'd by a VET, NOT. |

| Well, well, why am I not surprised. Still, you probably shouldn't call someone out for not OFA'ing their dogs when you don't either. Hey, folks, here are two more breeders you can defend for breeding whatever kind of GSD's they want. |

by hexe on 02 July 2012 - 16:21 |
| Prelims don't count as OFA certified--that's why they're called preliminary. |
by Keith Grossman on 02 July 2012 - 16:25 |
| Prelims are not OFA clearances and OFA'ing some of your breeding stock doesn't impress me. |
