hans, your proof of turning a dog in drive on command without helper present, is showing a video WITH helper and dog that is clearly premotivated before video starts,

but I will agree to disagree as this is going nowhere, and you will even state that snow is black to keep up your ...........

Pragr, I didn't quote you. But you confirm what was said, even through your silly insults you confirm your lack of understanding of a dog tracking and use of a s&r dog during work.

Juno:

once the dog alerts and there is no threat, how many times can you do it before the dog stops being attentive to the command.

none.
your goal to make your dog familiar with certain command and link it to certain action.
that's all. from time to time you may exercise this command off of training facility to keep dog from forgetting it.

you'll have now issue to "unteach" your dog to react on decoy in his sight and teach to go into active defence only on command or obvious immediate threat.

Joan, with your knowledge and practical experience you have much more to share that, than to stir up in public your disagreements with other member.
sorry but it's really sux.

OK duke fair enough there was decoy behind the corner and I rather not to have hours of discussion if the dog knew about the decoy or not. Instead please answer me a question below.
Since you keep claiming that it is not possible to put the dog by a command which was conditioned from calm state of mind ( not in drive) into protection/defense or prey drive without decoy present, then please explain to me what does the police dog do during building search? After all such dog has no clue if there is a bad guy present yet he will go (into drive)  and look for it when commanded.

Your opinion is noted.

Here is another one. S&R we come to avalanche field deposit and I nor the dog do not know if there is a victim. Dog sleeps in back of my SUV. I open the door and say "SEARCH" dog goes from sleeping into drive instantly on my command and I point the avalanche field and dog in active drive searches for victims he doesn't know are there - Yet.  Since if he would know that they are there then it would follow that he would also have to know where they are and would not have to "search" but could go directly to them.   This according to you is not possible. Yet it happens all the time. How did I got the dog into a drive from "dead" "Calm" if he did not know that there is a victim there somewhere in snow. And sometimes there is not one yet the dog still searches. Acording to you if I read correctly what you are saying is not possible.

How come I can come into my kennel and say Pozor! to dogs who are having 4 PM siesta( not in drive)  and they all turn on into drive barking instantly in defense drive.  After all there was no decoy nor bad guy or anybody besides me and the dogs? According to you I have just performed something which is not possible.

well, to be honest, and I realize many posting are selling, I enjoy the different views from the different people from many different back grounds willing to "educate" on the GSD.

everybody buying should sort it out for themselves. but really, on this thread is a very successful Euro LE/Military supplier, another who smuggled dogs out of Czech, and another probably the best animal trainer willing to share info to the masses anywhere on the WWW.

and that's not counting LE/Military/sport/S&R trainers from not only the U.S. but all over the world.

anyway, I have my own ideas but I just want to say thanks to all. and I really don't care what the motives are, I;ve been around long enough to sort out what matters to me.

Rik
