Sometimes my dog gets a little diarrhea near the end of her heat. Right before her heat bloat starts to go away. If there's a lot of chlorine in the water, whether for drinking or bathing, diarrhea happens, as well (she licks the water out of her coat). Once this cause was identified, the fix was easy.

Of course, if she ends up with some other reason for diarrhea, it usually shows up on a weekend, usually late at night, when the regular vet is closed and the ridiculously expensive emergency vet is eagerly awaiting $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

If this happens, I normally skip a meal and the next meal is smaller with the dehydrated pumpkin added to it. If I think it necessary, I've just given her the dehydrated pumpkin in place of the skipped meal. Lots of extra water, preferably bottled or extra highly filtered.
