Vom Haus Iris still breeds the occasional litter.

""there are so obviously notable differences that even person absolutely not involved with GSDs cannot miss them."" So true..

If one cannot see the difference between Maika vom Haus Iris and a run of the mill GSD bitch then .... well I just feel sorry for them..

Some of my DDR's have Haus Iris lines in them and some have strong Grafental lines.

When I have people stop me on the street and ask me "where I got that DDR"  I not only appreciate the admiration but the positive impact the East Germans had within their closed breeding program for no longer than it was in existence.... think about it, when have you ever seen a DDR with DM?

Dawn......looking back is a good thing ...the "Grafental "E" litter is a good example of which I am fortunate to have descendants from in some of my DDR's ..... Claudia has continued on with her own  line from her Fathers Grafental DDR line and is a breeder who breeds Working (not show) DDR descendants

""Just answer the mans question and recommend breeders to him. That’s what he is looking for.... BREEDERS, and not going WAY OFF TOPIC!"" Thankyou Dawn!!

I for one appreciate hearing from those with actual experience relevant to the central topic

Yeah I bet people just stop you on the street and ask about your 'ddr dog' ALL the time, Stormins.

Perhaps there is (always) such a dearth of 'ddr' breeders posting in reply to such threds because those who are selling their 'ddr' puppies recognise that they could not produce adequate proof of unbroken East German lineage behind their stock ?

So if we waited for them to come and post, and did not widen the debates on these pages to include other fanciers' perspectives on Topics, we'd have a lot of empty pages and even more threds tailing off after 2 posts, going nowhere. At least with other people who are not ' ddr breeders ' contributing, there are a range of aspects and questions raised which not just the OP of each thread but other passing readers can consider for themselves. Is that not the very essence of discussion ? Who died, Stormins, and made you 'Fat Controller' here, to decide whose contributions - to a Pedigree database - should be here, or worth assessment ? If they do not suit your own prejudices, no one forces you to read them.

As for relevence to topic, I am still falling about laughing at the idea you think your parental connection to a Nordic family has a justified place here, but things I write do not.

Regarding DM...just because a test shows negative, doesn’t mean a dog will NEVER get it.
I think testing for it is a good thing, but you never know when DM will show its ugly head.
How long has the DM TEST been out?
How do people check if the dog has really been tested for it? Is it on the OFA website?
What about checking for H/E. If the xrays were sent to the SV, some UNSCRUPULOUS breeders here in the USA can switch xrays,, and tell me it’s not done!
In conclusion..there is no true DDR dog anymore, Show or Working line, people The SV and it’s UNSCRUPULOUS’s Judges, and it’s BIG BREEDERS, are ruining the dogs, and the small breeders who are honest are overlooked. Same goes for the Working Line.
So..that’s my opinion for what it’s worth.

personally, I have never seen a thread here, that was worth keeping up with past the first page or two that did not veer off topic, lots of times in very interesting and insightful ways. it's just he way of this board and there have been lots of posts related to DDR dogs, but not naming a breeder directly.

there were two good breeders suggested within the first few posts (of the other Europe breeders thread). duke has mentioned that he finds dogs descended from some of these lines, that seems like a good starting point for anyone. has anyone followed up?

if someone is not getting the answers they want, why not start your own thread and be very specific upfront what may and may not be posted in it, and let the real mods decide if something is appropriate or not in other people's threads.

many posts on this one did not name a breeder but still very interesting to read.

The reason they can’t or won’t name DDR BREEDERS is because there are NOT ANY true DDR dogs anymore, but there are good dogs out there or is it a SECRET for certain people in GERMAN SHEPHERD DOGDOM? pure DDR DOGS with pure DDR lines... CAN SOMEONE name good breeders so the person can start looking for a dog. Or better yet...PM the person and help him out with breeders recommendations.

Was simply asking as others have, that we (as in all of us in general) stay on topic and honor the original posters request, which was pretty specific.

Your Sarcasm is uncalled for.

Wasn't suggesting that we NOT test DDR's for DM ...indeed we should. My statement was when have you ever seen a GSD with the DDR bloodline test positive? Which is a tribute to the superior breeding program they had in East Germany.

Correct ....there is no More DDR registry or even an East Germany, just as there is no longer a combined Czech country .... however, those bloodlines and that phenotype from those former countries did not simply disappear because the registry changed. I used human genealogy as a means to illustrate how those of us that breed "DDR" "East German" call it what you like, have a desire to keep the "type" as close as possible to the dogs that were developed in the old GDR. So if we can't differentiate that phenotype by calling them DDR or East then what should we call them? Alsatian Wolf dogs?

But to keep on target for the OP ..those that are pairing GSD's that each trace back to the DDR registry by and large are not choosing their pairs to produce a showline phenotype

Oh, and I have had Showdogs wth Iris and Grafental blood. No biggie, really.

in early part of '00 decade there were one dog, who did became somewhat sensation. he was really good representative of classical DDR breeding school in both aspects- phenotype and temperament.
so, he was brought to North America to be used in breeding.
well, outcome of such "improvement" of north american GSDs genetic pool can be seen on his progeni tree. for most part it's pretty much a perverted parody on the work of original breeder, who did produce that dog in his breeding program.
it's not much matter whose dogs in background. what matter is - how those dogs were used in mating to sustain and continue qualities, acheived in the first specimen.

by Rik on 06 January 2020 - 13:01

valk, no one in North America (except one breeder originally from Germany) brings dogs here for any purpose other than selling pups or collecting stud fees..

no matter what the ads say.

you know that.
