Ona side note, I do cringe sometimes at all the pics folks post, taken in a split second in time, when their dog rips open his mouth to portray a super aggressive looking, all teeth, GSD. To me anyway, that is not the heart and soul of the breed. It is misleading the public. As I agree it's not the only Hart and sole if the GS but it's a big part .so it would be misleading not to show it as part of the breedWink Smile

With respect Blade,
I don‘t agree it would be misleading.
We GSD people know what a good GSD is, or should be, an all around amazing dog. No need to highlight that split second of teeth so often. A lot of them is only macho posturing.

normally, dogs that are sold for detectionjobs, dont even bite, if they did they wouldnot be sold for single purpose only

@ jessejones, its not that simple as you state it, minorities in western/christian countries dont need to fear for their lives, can you say that for all other faiths/believes/tribes or whatever you want to call it, cant really compare southern american, and african countries to western countries, different ballgame alltogether

by joanro on 05 January 2019 - 17:01

But macho posturing should be allowed same as soft cuddly is. Not all people are snowflakes.

As for the America for native Americans....yes, they do have their own laws and societies. There was no America before Americans created the country.

Every country which allows only legal citizen ship is maintaining their country....why is it only Western countries are becoming minorities in their own countries? I don't see any in Africa, China, Japan, india, etc becoming a minority. Off topic.

We here all know that...but the general public does not.

Your second statement is debatable in some finer points. I know what you are generally saying. But that is a discussion that is off the charts for this forum.

But back to dogs....Personally, I am concerned about certain religious teachings of some clans vs dogs. When walking my dog in European cities, I have often had people pull their clothes and children away from me and my dog when standing on sidewalks, sitting at cafes, or standing at crosswalks waiting for light to change. If there are people at airports not wanting to be sniffed, then let them go through the full body scanner instead, if one is available. If not, tough luck. Religion should not be allowed to be used as an excuse for public safety.

Ironically, in the older versions of these same religions, dogs were not considered unclean and were used prolifically as hearders and hunting dogs...long before our civilization was. Even mentioned as creatures that pray to God, just in a different animal language.

Just shows, IMO, how religion can be twisted and manipulated to control the masses. ALL religions...and all peoples...not just some. It just depends on what time of history you are living in.

Soft and cuddly is the other extreme.

Yes, thankfully we still have relative freedom of speech, and relative freedom of photos. But, lets not wonder about public perception some non dog people might have about the GSD then.

I‘m in a place with bad Internet connection for the next few days, so my posting might be sporadic.

so jesse, you think every western country, that build its rules, habits and traditions over the centuries, and therewith created the wealth, freedom and way of living, should jump up and adjust each and every of those habits/traditions etc, for every offended minority that wants to live in that wealthy, free and happy societyLightbulb

Jesse j I don't think it's a split second thing most members here will do some sort of bite work with there dog and is a big part of what a GS is about . Police , prisons , airport scuirty private home owners private security companies and so on all use Gs for biting when called for .
Duke normally a dog for detection work does not bite that is why they a chosen but that doesn't change the fact they are part of a breed and that is use to take criminals down .

Jesse j said We GSD people know what a good GSD is, or should be, an all around amazing dog. (Correct ) but that may not be understood by people who don't know the GS like we do . not everyone is educated on this breed . I still agree it still wrong to remove these dogs from there roll because the public does not like them .I said at the start if the dog is serving it's purpose well that's good enough no matter what the breed .

No, I don‘t. Read my last post. I worry, or have concerns, with the rest of you guys. But, what I am saying is the the change to western civilization is unavoidable. You can‘t hold back a tidalwave for long. It is all a numbers game.

Blade-

Don‘t get me wrong. Bite work is important. Protection and LE jobs are important. Training and breeding for those traits is important. What I would like to see LESS of, are the dramatic teeth photos posted all over the place. They do not mean anything....we can get any luv-bug GSD to look that way for a photo.

MrDarcy-
Thank you
