Meh, puppies are born to be sold, not many have to work. What's is mainly being traded in a puppy sale is the perceived future value of the paper pedigree.

If you need a working dog plenty of good cross breed mal/gsd & unregistered litters at a fraction of the cost.

Chaz - I agree wholeheartedly about the significance of the dam line and the importance of great mothering. When I say 'dogs', I am using the generic term and am looking for info on strong females as well as males.

Koots, wasn't saying you weren't. Was pointing out that every name mentioned was a male. And I get it to an extent. Good males have hundreds of offspring. Their contribution to the breed is greater as a whole.

Can someone explain the importance of a dog's mother line?

Chaz Reinhold

Is that a serious question?

The damline is the most important, Mith.

Personally, I always look to the females in a pedigree more than I do to the males...that's where the essence of a line is rooted, and it is from there that all else springs.

Enno was son of Frei v d Gugge, who if you define SL by VA status, was a SL dog. Enno was sold to Paul Hombach, but allowed to stay in Germany for another year to be bred and compete in BSP with Fritz. Enno was V in conformation also. He WON the BSP with 299 or 298, and also sired Drigon and Falk who also won the BSP. At that time Germany did not sell their BSP or VA select dogs ( well almost never), but Enno was already sold so too late. My first PSD was out of Arko vom Rossbach, an Enno son from Germany. I named him Enno after his grandfather, awesome dog for Delaware State Police,1982. Enno was an important sire through Drigon, and other males, that he and two of his sons were BSP winners coming from VA Frei vd Gugge is incredible I guess, coming from SL winner of that period.
