Bummer. Sorry to hear that. Is he a breeding dog or just a pet? I do know of people who have managed it successfully for many years.

We had a female import who came as a pup. Show and working line pedigree. She had it at age 5 or 6 and was managed for life with pred acetate or optimune and I still have the bottle if you need the name, something mixed with oil from a pharmacy too. Have an 11 year old (show lines) that I suspect has it too and am using the same meds. Started with blood shot watery eyes and a very slight flesh colored film coming on each side of the iris (outside edge). It was not brown at all on either of them. I caught it early so it was a thin line just starting. I did not take the 11 year old in but it looked the same and her eyes are fine with the meds so I am assuming that is what it was. Each did have pups years before and were spayed by the time it developed.

i found it was pretty easy to control with the eyedrops. You are also supposed to protect the eyes from sunlight, too, which might be a problem if the dog is kenneled and not a house dog.

Lili was 5 when I adopted her. I know I not only saved her eyesight, I also saved her life. Her owner had gone into a nursing home, and she'd just sort of given up on life. She was 26" tall, weighed 35 lbs. and was refusing to eat!

She was likely an ASL dog, possibly from Leo Bellini's kennel. I was never able to find out.

He's a working dog (cert in narcotics, articles, man trailing/tracking) has his AD and ready for his BH, ofa etc etc and had sired 2 litters.

His eyes already look a bit better. I'm putting together new diet, all raw (was 50%) and adding turmeric.

As far as future breeding, I have not had any plans.

Sorry to hear about this, but, if it's any consolation, there are worse things that can happen. It's pretty easy to keep under control.

I agree, it could be a million times worse.

It will be rough being an outside dog. We'll need to modify the times he's out when it's sunny and wear doggles while out playing in the sun. I'd bring him in, but he eats cats and they were here first. Hopefully we'll manage just fine.
