Just wanted to get an opinion or any input , thanks in advance .
I have a 10 month old male Czech/Dutch/wgwl line , he's prey drive is off the chart ( malinois on speed) he has a very good foundation in all aspects of ipo and excels and loves the bite work and he might possibly be a future police dog in my department , but here's the kicker , when out on trails or the beach this dog is so focused on everything around him that I feel like he doesn't care where the handler is or is doing and that bothers me , !!! Is this something he will grow out of or its just him?

Have you done any focus or engagement work?

What methods of training obedience you are using? Where do you keep the dog at night? It may be just age period- How long had he been like that? Always or just now? . Would you care to post pedigree. Some dominant lines like the 2nd line or with such influence, do not care much for the handler.

How long have you had this dog?

Have you done work with him on-leash?

How's his food drive...have you used food or a toy to play with him?

Have you had him in a secure space (like a fenced-in yard) and played with him with a toy or 2 toys?

Have you played 2-ball with him?

If you had him as a baby has he been this way all the time or when did he begin showing this type of behavior?

Engagement Engagement Engagement, you have to be more interesting to him than anything else. I would concentrate on this and put the other stuff on the back burner. In the end this will help you in all the other phases.

To me the most important thing you can do with your dog is to BOND...If you don't BOND correctly and well then you will lose out on a lot of connecting with them...In everyday life and in the work...
Learn to Spend quality time with your dog...It doesn't take so long per day but you need to learn how to Play with them where's it to your advantage...
It sounds so silly to so many that they need to learn how to Play with your dog...But I've found most people really don't know how to do this and you can do it where it's helpful for training later on...

I've had him since he was 4 months old , he has an interesting pedigree , he's a very big and dominant young dog , he has always been kenneled or crated. Very much so a one man dog and never has been handled by anyone else but me, very neutral to dogs and people but lately getting very headstrong and more independen , just wanted to gain some input from you guys and see if this is something I can correct.

High drive confident male dog spent most of his life in a kennel.

You should be able to work this out yourself.... you have just let the isolated, adventurous child loose at Disneyland for the first time.

Your dog just realised it's a dog.

Use a long line and let the poor thing be a dog.

Sheesh, this needs explaining.

Well, it is partly his age; at 10 months he is at that
stage which translates in human terms to "awkward
teenager" ! LOL
Lots of good advice in the posts above, you do need
to learn to make yourself more interesting to him if
you have hopes of progressing with his IPO or serious
LE work, because you will need that degree of control
in all aspects, not just the bitework.
You speak of taking him to the beach ... do you walk
him off-leash ?

Thanks again for all the advice , just to clarify , although he is kenneled he does get tremendous amount of time excersised and worked daily , whether it's obedience , tracking or his bite work , obstacle course or just being a dog , he's only kenneled when Iam
Not there and no he's not a house dog , due to his intense prey drive he most likely will never be a house dog ( very destructive and mouthy) very Mali like. I will apply all the above and try again , hopefully it's just that awkward age phase.
