Shades SmileLol - I will send you a pm with my name. SRF actually stands for Sandy Ridge Farms. It is not a kennel name but at one time we sold plants (on the side). I dearly love the German Shepherd Dog and enjoy reading the post and posting every now and then. I am a (recently) retired school teacher and getting positioned to start growing plants again. My husband has been coaching high school football for 40 years. Five of those years have been part-time. Every year he says he is going to retire but never does. He just can't seem to leave the players. He raises, trains, hunts and sells English Setter birddogs. He has been doing this for around 35 years. Also, he trains my German Shepherd Dogs, and I work them. This a great thread you have started. I hope more people will respond!

Hi all,

I am a long-time lurker (checked my profile - it was created over 8 years ago, but I'm quite sure I was using the site long before that). I've had at least 1 GSD in my life since purchasing my first pup when I was 14. We competed in AKC obedience (including two high in trials at specialty shows, including the Candadian National), juniors, and agility and also trained in search and rescue. Showing took a back-burner for a while for schooling. Having completed med school a little less than two years ago, I'm now getting more active again. I have two dogs currently, Aiden and Ellie. Ellie and I had our first Barn Hunt trial last weekend - she earned her RATI and got one leg for her RATN, coming in third. I do obedience with both and have plans to start agility this summer. We also want to try our hand (paw?) at herding. I hope to do schutzhund with my next GSD and, long term, hope to have add a few more dogs to my pack to train, show and have the occasional litter. Just not at the moment while I am in residency and living on a city lot. . .

I very much enjoy the site - both learning things form the posts and dreaming about my next dog.  Thank you for the invitation to share - this is Aiden and Ellie.

@srfwheat ... thanks for the PM. For simplicities sake, can I address you as Sandy on this site? I think we just might have much in common, and you too, with others on this site!

@offthehook ...  Thanks for posting, Chris! I absolutely love your dogs' names and your photo. Nice pond in the back, too. Is that yours? The little snappy snow beard is adorable! Oops, sorry, you got girsl! Just me, being stuck on boys, lol!  I consider myself a "boy" dog person! Not that there is anything wrong with the "girl" dogs!  Teeth Smile  LOL

@riddlem2 ...  I only hope you are a Gotham fan! LOL You have lurked for 8 years, well, I feel honored you posted to this thread! Aiden and Ellie are amazing and such a gorgeous pair. Wish you could bring their barn hunt experience to my yard and help me get rid of a special varmint that is destroying the landscaping in my pool yard. I will be happy to let them enjoy a swim for their troubles!

More Lurkers, please join in the posting! This is a fun way to make some new friends. 👍🏻

LadyBoss,

Since you are still having trouble making a live link, let me try with some instructions here, so the info will also be closeby for other newbies, and lurkers, too.

To make a live link:

1. Enable the editor

2. Select and copy the link you want to make live.

3. Click the "link" icon (see prev. post by GSD Admin for what this looks like).

4. In the URL box, with the blinking cursor, click in it, and then PASTE your link. NOT the button that says, "Link Type" and says URL! This is the correct one, seen below:

5. Hit the green OK button and it should work for you!

And it should look like this:

@beetree Thank you, Cham was named on a quirky whim, which totally fits her now. We have a goat farm and with her coloring (both of them actually) blends in to the surroundings. That is our pond we have a little haven here in Vermont with a big yard, a river and a pond :O). No worries, I have always considered myself a "boy" dog person as well, girls confound me, boys are pretty simple :) I will be breeding Karma should all the stars line up, next spring, so until then will wait (not so patiently) to get my boy

Well, I lurk. This isn't my first post, but I confess I rarely say much anymore.

I have four dogs: three GSDs and a Jack Russell to keep everyone in line. I used to be more active in the showing and breeding world. I've mostly retired from both. When I was in the US Navy, one of my collateral duties was working with the MWDs. I've had the occasion to study animal behavior and training at a few big cat rescues, and at Sea World Orlando back in the 90s. I've always got my nose in the latest studies.

I have a passion for genetics. I have several degrees in biological science. I have worked with plants, fruit flies, rodents, and when I was breeding I applied that knowledge to dogs. My first mentor was an AKC Herding Group Judge who bred her own line of collies, and emphasized -function!- as well as form. Her belief was if it couldn't herd, then it wasn't a collie. It was just a dog that -looked- like a collie. I daresay that shaped a lot of my views on conformation right there.

This was my pack at one point. I'm down a few, but still have a nice dog family. An image

Occasionally I draw.

And that's about all I have to say about myself.

Nice to see you posting! What a cool picture of your old pack, too. It has rather amusing elements throughout the composition. :) Nice of you to share your talented artwork, too, JC Carroll! Pointillism in pen and ink? Or a 6B pencil? What is the scale, I am curious? I paint, myself.

Hi Beetee,

Thankyou for the compliments. I sent you a PM with the technical details of the drawing. In your painting, is there any particular subject you focus on especially? It's always nice to meet artists on the boards. There are a lot of quietly talented people around here, I'm sure.

I can do most subjects, but I don't want this thread to be about me! Seems I can do that without trying, sometimes! Lol Here is a detail of a work still in progress, only because I am painting Jurassic Park dinosaurs for some volunteer work I do... Long story, ha! This is a detail of my brothers dog, a Bernese Mountain dog....
