I'm very new to showing SV style, but I would really like to give it a go. I've looked up some of the requirements, or at least tried to, but I'm still left a little confused.
I have a pure working line male who will be three in July. He is not titled yet, but we are working towards his BH/IPO, though it'll probably be a long process. Since he's not titled, I assume we would be in the "open class"? I'm thinking just a club show would do us well. I'd also like to add that some of his K-9's are worn down from chewing. He has all his teeth and a correct bite, but are we still eligible to show? Thank in advance for any replies!

You are right, without HD/ED results, and working title, you are only able to participate in the "open class". This "title" is not official, kind of "just for fun".
Without seeing the teeth nobody is able to tell you if that´s okay or not, sorry.

Keep up your work in case of IPO1, but don´t be disappointed about a SG rating when titled. A titled dog older than 3.5 years without breed survey is only able to get a SG rating, no V.
A very goood reason to go on...
Good luck!!!

SG is the working dog's V. ;D

Most working dog people will only set foot in a show ring if they plan to get a breed survey.

The BS is one of the things you should have prior to breeding the dog. However, the BS is usually given little weight in working dog breedings. It does, however, help keep the breed type consistent -- excludes over and undersized dogs, dogs with missing teeth, and helps maintain proper pigmentation.

I've watched some SV Show judges automatically sort all the working dogs to the end of the class before they even began their evaluations. I guess gold Rolexes don't come from working dog people.

Some (a few) SV judges will give a working dog a fair evaluation. Wilfred Scheld was one. Dieter Oeser is another.

As far as showing your dog, do it. It can be fun and is a good way to support the clubs that put forth the effort to put on a show. As noted earlier, you will need to show in the 24 month and over un-titled class. Or, if you do have a working title and the hip and elbow certifications, you can show in the Working Dog class. Only a show rating for a 12+ month class or the Working Dog class counts towards a breed survey. The 24+ untitled class does not count towards the breed survey.

sorry for my ignorance, but do i read it correct: after 24mnths u can not get BS, thus, u can not actually breed the dog or??? do i miss smth?

i plan to showone of my dogs, he is 24mnths in February, so he will be in un-titled class... we working towards IPO currently.

You can breed survey after 24 months. You can't breed survey without a working title at any age. You can't get a V rating in the working class (the only class that gives out V ratings) if your dog is over 3.5 years old and hasn't been breed surveyed. If you did happen to show your dog before 2 years of age and over 1 year of age, that show rating would count towards the breed survey (show rating is a prerequisite of a breed survey) even if the dog wasn't titled at the time of the show rating.

Basically in order to V you have to do it with a younger dog or get an SG, breed survey, then enter another show to get a V rating (if your dog is conformationally correct and deserves that rating).
