I have heard that people breed ASL to WL, usually a nice line. My male who is SL, his dam & sire are both WL. Are you going to keep a puppy?
How many GS do you have?

Is that all your going to do?

Yes, I am only breeding a litter to get a pup to keep back for myself! My girl has 7 combined titles in conformation and performance and 9 health clearances. She is also a certified therapy dog. The sire is a conformation dog with 5 health clearances. Both parents have been temperament tested. My fingers are crossed!!!

I would do IPO but had several bad experiences. If it was geared to be fun for you and your dog and something that you do like agility and obedience -welcoming and for anyone- than I would go back. But, there seems to be an attitude of not wanting to create that type of atmosphere. Fine with me...plenty other things for me to do with my dog!

Actually, WL/SL crosses are NOT common...not WL to AmLine anyway.

I have no problem with it, but one definitely has to be careful. I had somebody with a nice WL male actually ask to lease my AmLine bitch in the future! I was flattered, and surprised. Whether or not I will do it I do not know...but it has more to do with my fear of losing my bitch than it does the cross (I am deeply attached to this girl).

Von Issk does WL x ASL breedings and she seems to be very happy with the results.

Smiley, I wish you luck with your litter, I know you've been around the block a time or two trying to decide what you wanted for your female. Bet youre excited :-) 

I think Smiley knows that my congratulations were made because it has taken her well over a year to find a dog she wanted to use for breeding. Now that part of her research is finished and the best for her is yet to come.

 

I have been on this forum form the beginning, left for a couple of years and recentky joined again. Further more i have been on Dutch, Spanish dog fora and it is always the same every where.

The WL/SL/Pet issue has been on every single GSD forum that i know of.

No matter if it is a dogbreed forum or one on psychology, paranormal or whatever. There are always members making rude comments. Some even enjoy beeing rude.

I guess it is just human nature in a sense.

Over the years i learned not to take anything personal, i just let those comments run off like water on a ducks back.

And they certainly won't keep me from reading and writing about the breed i love.

 

In regards to crossing two different types of GSD, as in ASL X WL , wouldn't one expect the pups of that pairing to be like one parent or the other? With my limited knowledge of genetics, I would think that there would be less likelihood of a "blending" of characteristics as there would be a number of pups to be like the sire, and a number to be like the dam. I could see this expression of either parent phenotypically in the pups, and therefore would surmise that genotypically it would be the same, but I have not seen enough litters of these types of "crosses" to form an educated opinion. Any comments from those who have done this, and what the pups were like ?

Koots, we whelped and raised a litter of asl/wgw/sl here several years ago. Most of the pups resembled the dam ( asl) in appearance and had soft temperament...to socialize them starting at five weeks old with strangers to them, we had people come over, sit down and gave them bits of cooked chicken to entice the pups to them. I never had to do that with any other litters of pups. They turned out to be pets, none would have made it in conformation competition, but the owner got them all into good pet homes. They were handsome pups to look at.

Neither parent has a soft temperament though my bitch has more drive. So, we shall see!!!

I would be thrilled if they all took after my bitch!!😛
