Why what Ibrahim?

Because no one had the brains or balls to grab the dog and properly secure him beforehand.

Very few cops know much more about dog body language than the general public. That's not part of their training. There were several opportunities to grab that dog. Dogs read body language. Notice how the dog changed when the cop's movement changed and turned his complete focus on the dog. The dog was confused and concerned and wanted to follow his handler. He didn't jump out of the car and head straight for the throat of the arresting officer. Ample time to grab him. The guy who shot him was scared and doesn't know squat about dogs. If he did, he'd not have reacted in that manner (the sudden "FREEZE" posture wielding the gun) based on the dog's behavior in those seconds.

I'd have been the lunatic in the crowd who ran out and grabbed the dog the second he got out of the car, knowing full well what was going to happen if I didn't.

The owner of the Rottweiler went out of his way to harass the police when they were arresting a robbery suspect. He placed his dog in harm's way and he is solely responsible for what happened to the dog. The police are like everyone else, not all of them are expected to be dog handlers, it's not their job. There is another video showing what really happened and the man is charged with threatening the woman who took that video. I would term his actions to be aggressive toward the police and I am wondering whether he was really trying to help the robbers who were caught.

1. Why kill the dog? The dog owner surrendered to the police, so he had no intention of escaping, police could have uncuffed him to secure the dog and then re arrest him. Killing the dog was stupid and nasty.

2. Why didn't the dog owner close car windows?

3. Then when dog owner saw the dog trying to attack the police man why didn't he order the dog to stop and step back?

4. Police in first hand saw the suspect put the dog in the car, why didn't they make sure dog was 100% secure away from them ?

1) Because when you have to make split second decisions involving your health and well being, you choose what works instantly to eliminate the threat that can hurt you. Once you are handcuffed here, you do not get uncuffed to "take care of your dog", end of. People have run before, people who were not searched have produced weapons before and its not the police officer's job to worry about your dog. Killing that dog was the only option available to an officer who is NOT some dog expert and who thinks he is about to get nailed by a big dog.

2) I cannot answer for the owner, obviously, he is an idiot.

3) You are assuming the dog was PROPERLY trained or trained at all to be able to take a command and stop its actions instantly.

4) Its not the police officer's first concern to make sure your car is secured, they are looking after the suspect and what HIS hands are doing as well as his body language. Again, its not their job to fic someone's stupidity.

All replies are intelligent and of logic.

The scene of the dog in shock and pain after being shot is painful

Yes, Ibrahim, some warning about them would be appropriate in your post. It's horrific.

All the jerks filming and giving play-by-play could have intervened, though it's not their job any more than it's the cop's job to secure the dog. The owner put him in that position, though by the dog's overall disposition, I don't get the feeling that he was any more than a fat pet, and didn't have much training. I doubt the owner thought the dog was going do to anything. You could see his (dog's) uncertainty. If the handler had a command to stay put, you'd think he'd have used it. The dog knew he should do something...he just didn't have a clue what. If I were in that situation (which would never happen), I would make sure my dog could not get out of the vehicle- and that means windows up and doors LOCKED- a trained dog will do what it has to do to get out of car. My own has escaped through my sunroof to come "visit" me in my office at work, lol. The dog was failed on many levels.

Yes Jenni. I rewatched the video second time. Every and each word you said is 100% correct, I could see that in the video after reading your post.
