WANTED:

'LONG' coat/hair (Red & Black) GSD:  the longest, Silkiest we can get our hands on....

Puppy or young adult, gender is negotiable, female preferred IF masculine physic.  We are being rather particular, as most people are if they decide to spend hard earned money.  Most of the Kennels we have researched have 'Limited' breeding rights (which is Great), however, I choose not to Alter my Dogs at all Even though only once ever in my lifetime of 53 years have I ever aquiesced to breed a dog!  Proof is in the evidence and my record speaks of itself.  I have worked in the Vetrinary field, Grooming, Rescue & placement, Nutrition, Training, etc. all facets of Dogdom there is.  I used to belong many years ago to a Schutzhund club, though I lean more in the direction of Search & Rescue these days.  The conditioning of barking is of course needed in this Discipline, but you gain a different type of dog behavior as well.  I am searching for a possible -Medium drive dog now.  If anyone has helpful information please contact me.

Lets get this down to basics:

You want to find a GSD

with a long, very silky, coat

possibly for doing S&R work;

Odd, I thought that sort of non-weatherproof coat was a big hindrance for Search & Rescue ?

Apart from being the coat type disqualified by the Standard.

You want a doggy-looking bitch.  Presumably what you mean by "masculine physique"

is:  you want an over-size, muscular bitch.  How you gonna tell, if you get a puppy ?

Unless of course you go to the breeders who deliberately raise and sell dogs that are

too big ?

You have worked in 'every facet' of dogdom, including "Vetrinary" (but you can't spell

the word), but you want to support providers of non-standard dogs ?

There was anpther thred here recently which showed what many posters thought of

anyone who does that.

Tamra, you are on the wrong website.

I think if you choose to go with a puppy, you will be disappointed, unless you adjust(lower) your criteria.

Why the extra long coat if you plan to do SAR? I personally place drive and temperament over aesthetics when purchasing a working dog. Yes, we all want a nice looking dog, but for SAR you need to take working ability more into consideration.

And maybe I'm wrong but I thought a "larger type" dog for SAR might be a hinderence not an asset...I thought for SAR you would want a more medium size dog that is very agile...

Most of us in the Working Dog World do have our favorite Color in a German Shepherd but also place Working Ability over Color...

No connection, move on.

Joan, you don't have to post to these type of threads.

Just my 2 cents,

The road to hell is paved with good intentions...but, truth be  told,

Even breeding two dogs together that are totally within the standard, larger dogs do come out.  What should be done with those dogs, deny their existence  or sell them to someone that wants it for reasons other than show.   There are people that do purposely breed for oversize dogs, that is different than the ones coming out of 'within the standard' breeders. It happens.  And I think it happens more than people want to admit.                     I see dogs that look as if they are starving, so the weight can be kept within standard.

That's interesting KitKat, since the SV Standard does not specify maximum

weight, just height.

NummerEns is offering and l/c pup in their puppy ad, might check it out.  good luck  Nan

Kitkat, I had an oversized dog in one of my litters one time. I kept him back till he was 2 years old, had him ofa'd, came back normal w/ good hips, he was at least two inches too tall. I had him neutered and I placed him in a pet home, he was a great representative of the breed, just too tall. But I did not need to respond to anyone seeking 'over sized' gsd, nor did I advertise him. But that's just me. fwiw, he had a short stock coat, like the rest of my dogs.

The OP is loolking for a pet/companion is all I can glean from her post. What's supposed to be wrong with that. Why would a GSD forum not be a good place to start. I had very little knowledege of Euro GSD, blk/red/sable, IPO, wl/sl, size limit, mandatory health checks etc. before stumbling on this forum by way of google.

Since then, I feel I have learned quite a bit, joined a training club, participaded in quite a few events, made a couple trips to Germany and come up with what I consider a good dog or two.

It's pretty rude to treat people who may not be as far along the trail as if we were not all there once.
