Wow, you're the nicest ever Hexe, I am overwhelmed, thanks a million

by hexe on 04 January 2015 - 20:01

Ibrahim, don't feel too badly--I admit I did have to read her posts in the first thread more than once, which is understandable since Jenni admitted right up front that she was writing them after having already been without sleep for 50 hours. Teeth Smile   I'm betting she hasn't been getting a whole lot of sleep since then, either, which I why I'm not even going to ask about which dog has had to undergo 2 surgeries since 12/23 at this point--she can catch everyone up later, when the puppies are all older and entertaining themselves and the dog who had the surgeries is [hopefully] fully recovered and back on point.

Ok, waiting for some paint to dry (fixing up the laundry/mud room to accommodate some built-ins...yay!!)....

Hexe is correct on nearly all accounts, but I did lose one puppy the night everyone crashed and there are only 8 Aria/Boy puppies. Wilted Rose RIP Little George, a gorgeous dark sable male (vet's daughter named him). He was a fighter. I did not sleep a full night from December 8, the first night I was on puppy watch,  until Dec. 21st. I was able to save all the remaining pups, though, so it was totally worth it. They didn't need anything more than food, since Aria was far too weak to feed them all adequately. Fortunately, they did not require extensive treatment. Not that feeding 8 pups every 2 hours is easy or anything, lol. Sunday the 14th, I was afraid I was going to lose Aria, so I was more than happy to do whatever needed to ease her burden once she rounded the bend. Once she rebounded, it felt like a piece of cake compared to seeing her so very sick.

It seemed Megy was carrying more earlier- then the last several weeks, she just stopped getting bigger. <shrug>. I think whatever this virus was did have an effect, because she was vomiting and had diarrhea, but so much less than Aria that I initially chalked it up to labor, but in hindsight, I think she was sick. I don't know her whelping behavior since this is her first litter with me. Vomiting is not exactly  unheard of in labor.

Megy has had small litters in the past. She had 2 litters of 3. I didn't buy her as part of a "get rich quick" scheme on puppies, thankfully. Teeth Smile  I am happy to have my one healthy pup though it's awful to lose a pup, even if you never knew it. The stillborn had been gone several days by the look of it. I'm fortunate that his death didn't cause any more problems for Megy or the live pup (who still doesn't have a name!!). Megy is in much better  physical condition now than when I got her. She is sleek, muscular, shiny as can be, and has lost some fat but gained lbs. I had been trying to breed her to another male who wasn't doing his job. I may have waited too long to let Dallas try or perhaps, she was only carrying 3-4 to begin with because that's just how her body works, and she reabsorbed one or two.I'm sure we'll never know, but as she's in good health and didn't require any interference (c-section, etc.) I see no harm in giving it another shot. Now, if she'd had 10-12 pups in her other litters, I'd think she was losing fertility and I shouldn't push my luck, but if 3 is her norm, I think it's safe to try again.  She is a fantastic mother (which I asked before purchasing and can happily report I was told the truth!) It's great to watch her with the pup.  Now she and the pup are in our bedroom so they're our nightly entertainment before bed. What a temper the little guy has. Spoiled rotten!

Simon, my middle/senior-aged  APBT,  had surgery to remove a mast cell tumor from his elbow/shoulder area and as it was a large piece of tissue that was removed, it opened up and needed to be redone a few days later, so monitoring him has been tricky. It's in an absolutely terrible place. If he were human, I'm sure it'd have been grafted. And to think that just 3 months ago I dropped his insurance due to loopholes and decided against the optional "cancer only" coverage. Murphy's Law!

Ok, think I covered it.........sorry for the novel.

You have been even busier than I first thought! Hopefully things will slow down for you now.

Egads, woman. Hell of a December.

Sorry to hear about Simon needing surgery on top of everything else, and in a bad place for secure suture lines. I wouldn't count a graft out entirely just yet...generally can't be done immediately anyway. Also sorry about baby George, had hoped you were able to get all of the Aria's pups past the illness but not shocked to learn that was too much to hope for.

Get some sleep.

Handsome pup Jenn.  Best of luck with him and Aria's litter.  Would love to see Aria's pups to when you get a chance to breathe!!  Not sure if you heard about my latest addition.  A Papillion !  Her name is Jiggy. She is completely full of herself and doing well in her agility training. She is now 10 mos.  How time flies.  Not sure how I am going to run a small dog yet but I am going to try.  True is her awesome self.  She was injured last year so not much competing for us.  Back to it this year:)  Rex my man is 10 and doing well.  He stays fit trying to keep up with the girls LOL!  Happy New Year!  Hope things settle and you are able to enjoy Capri's grandson!

Lyn, I mostly use FB for the pups since it's so much faster to upload pics there (no resizing, etc.) and all the pup buyers can subscribe to updates. Only so much time in a day! I'll email you.

I can look you up under your name or kennel name.

Geez Jenni, Happy New Year!!

That pup is awesome!!! I sure hope things settle down for you now...

That pup looks like a Megalith! Even if he's not actually that big, he has presense!

Best of luck to you, jackie harris
