I have a 8x8 dirt area covered in tanbark where my 4 German Shepherds potty and urinate. I will have an open house soon and need help eliminating the urine smell. I removed the tanbark and watered the entire area so far. The smell is really strong. Also what can I do to the area to keep it smelling not so bad as my dogs contine to use until I sell.
My normal process is to pick up poop immediately since its a small area.

Steam cleaners sell "spot" enzyme product that naturally breaks down urine and poo... I had used that in the past to prevent dogs from using the same area in and outside of the house. works great on Carpet and I had to use it on a deck corner where boys kept marking...so if all fails try that.

the smell is from the uring being broken down. Those enzymes break more down, so the smell will get a bit stronger before it goes away. If the open house is soon, it might backfire, just something to keep in mind.

I have used a solution of vinegar and water which I spray over baking soda to help eliminate the smell. My dogs like to urinat right at the back door and does not smell to pleasent so I do this about every two weeks, more in the summer.

I used to use a product called Sweet PDZ in my horse stalls.
Stuff worked great for eliminating urine smell.
It comes in a plastic bag and looks a bit like clay kitty litter.
I would check with your local feed store or farmers supply store.
Also, Cedar kennel bedding works well for keeping ordors at bay.

Sprinkle the ground with powdered line available at feed stores. It will sweeten earth and get rid of smell. Crushed limestone in potty area will achieve same in long run. And u will avoid mud

I put down pea gravel in the dog areas (not a good idea) and when I would wash the area, I used some dawn soap put in in a garden sprayer (used to spray insecticide) and sprayed the entire area. Let dry then washed again. It was not a quick fix however and took a couple of apps.

There is a product that is called "Kid's N Pets" believe me this really works like it says it does. I used it on a rental that had cat urine odor so bad after I pulled the carpet and pad that I thought I would have to remove the sub-floor. I used this stuff and in 24 hours the odor was gone and did not come back!

Lime will do the trick. You need the stuff for lawns and gardens, not for construction.

I use a product called Stall Dry in my horse stalls. I sprinkle it lightly over the wet pee left on the stall mat after I have cleaned out the wet shavings. There is no pee smell whatsoever in my barn after 5 years. Then I sprinkle compressed wood pellets on it and cover over with shavings. Just an idea.
