2 year old WL bitch went in for x-rays today. Opinions would be welcome. Vet and I both agree the dog's left hip (right hip on the screen) is smaller than the other. What will OFA or the SV think in regards to that? I know OFA can be quick to call it "bad"... should I send them off to the SV instead?
Elbows were also done, but since these are large images I'm only adding the hips. There are 3 xrays below.

Fair maybe--JMO I( don't think the one being smaller is going to be as big a deal as how shallow the sockets are. I know nothing about the SV and their practices so I can't offer anything regarding SV vs OFA.

My suspicion is that the one hip merely appears smaller than the other because the dog’s pelvis is tilted (one side is closer to the x-ray plate than the other, causing magnification). This mostly happens when dogs are not sedated for hip radiographs; which would also explain the really poor positioning. Neither the SV nor OFA should accept these radiographs. In order to receive the most accurate assessment you are best off to have the films repeated under standard sedation and good positioning, IMHO. It’s quite possible that these hips will read out SV normal / OFA good or fair if positioned correctly.

She was sedated, believe it or not. This was my first time using this vet after my old vet doubled his prices.

I hadn't thought of the tilted pelvis causing the hip to look smaller. That is something to consider! Perhaps I will wait and see what OFA rates them as. If it is not what I want, I will try a different vet and retake the x-rays.

The pelvis is tilted in all of the xrays and the legs are not correctly extended. I wouldn't send these xrays in--I'd get new films.

Ramage....I am by no means an expert and still learning the finer details of X-ray reading but I agree with Blackthorn...do not send these in.
The positioning is not correct......knees are not extended evenly.......pelvic tilted......legs not straight.
I think the depth of the sockets look OK... the head of the right leg might be slightly smaller but can't really tell for sure.

Re take them . Positioning is not good.
