I have a chrystler town and country (i too once said i would NEVER own a minivan! LOL)

I can fit two 500s in the back and still have 4 captian seats for people to sit. But i usually take another captian seat out and can fit another 500 in place on one of the middle seats so i can still have 3 seats and 3 500 crates.

Does OK on gas, and cant really complain about it.

Holy cow lots of advice on this post.  I have the Dodge Grand Caravan also and I love it.  I swore I would NEVER drive a minivan either but this is fantastic.  Like driving a car and very very comfortable.  I have the special edition version so don't know about the other versions.  We plopped down the two middle seats into the floor and left the back seat up.  It's so easy to configure the seats any way you want them.  Behind the back seat we keep a huge cooler.  We have to down here because trips too the store are a long ways away and it's so hot.  The dogs stay very comfortable with the back a/c on them also.  If we have to drive several people it's a snap to just pull up the middle seats.  I love my minivan and believe me I thought I would never be saying those words.

lol - I have a dinky little PT cruiser and its great - just doesnt hold alot of stuff - works for one dog and a trunk full of college dorm room stuff.

I want a New Dodge Challenger because the engine is nice and it is gorgeous but not really efficient.

But if I wanted to be efficient regarding dogs and hauling I would probably get a Dodge Ram 2500 Quad Cab with the diesel engine - they last forever and currently the gas is a whole lot cheaper.  Another car I would consider is a dodge Magnum or another station wagon because of the room in the back...or (and I think they are ugly but wildly effiecient for dog owners) the Honda Element - I have a friend who works in a floral nursery and she loves it because of the plastic interior - she says she can just hose it down.  Some SUV's might be the way to go also - my boyfriend has a Merury Mountaineer (used) and his parents both own Hyudai Santa Fe's.  The Mountaineer is HUGE and has a ton of space in the back for dogs and for people but it eats gas - and its pretty common for his parents to haul the dogs around in the back of the Santa Fe as well - the just stick a blanket in the back and their two dogs lay down - and actually they get pretty good gas mileage and they have alot of pick up for a smaller sized engine.  One other car that might make sense is the dodge Nitro - my mother just purchased one and it also has a ton of room...not to purty but pretty useful when you have alot of people and animals to haul around.

lol - after reading my own random postings about random cars (I like cars :) ) - I would probably go with an SUV like the Mountaineer/explorer (with the smaller engine) or Santa Fe; or a Station wagon type of vehicle - these will give you enough space for the humans and the dogs :)

Hope this helps :)

I have a 97 Ford Aerostar AWD I just love, but its getting old, ugly, and sick, but it holds 4 500 crates and a lot of junk in front & on top of the crates, strapped to the top, and pulls my 4-dog trailer like it wasn't even there.

Considerations for the next vehicle:

  • 4WD GM van, possibly hightop
  • Toyota Sienna
  • New extended length Ford Expeditio
  • Low mileage Excursion Turbo diesel

I rented  Caravan last year to go to the Raiser seminar in Atlanta.

Didn't like the one I rented:

  • Only held two 400's and one 500.
  • Not much room for anything else (I do NOT travel light... EVER!)
  • Too soft suspension for much weight (Can't imagine adding a dog trailer to that snail, or strapping anything on top)
  • Under-powered (Is this hill really that steep?)
  • Third seat was a bitch to get out (not the foldable version on my rental)
  • Sound system sucked

Other than that, it was fine. Ha ha ha.
