another raw food /kibble - Page 1

ive been doing some research for about a week or so and am still ststuck, so i ask yall.
I ALWAYS WANT TO DO THE BEST I HUMANLY CAN FOR MY DOG/S

2 my still limited knowledge the main arguments are
RAW
Pros:dogs live longer, healthier lives, less cancer....... it takes them back to what the ate/how they lived in the wild, which is how God intended them to be
Cons:bones can splinter, inside of dog, bactieria.........
KIBBLE
Pros: Scientists, tested blah blah blah premium kibble is the best thing for ur dog
Cons: wolves(where dogs came from) didnt have scientist and vets they where ok, dogs that eat kibble have cancer and all types of other stuff that wolve/dogs back in the day didnt have, blah blah blah.......

Questions
1:what do you make your raw diet out of (i would feel better with beef, {chicken salminela}{pork worms}), i eat barely cook steaks from time 2 time lol
2:arguable (the american gsd has through different (imo bad) breeding had its working drive (on some level (imo a very high level)) , and only God knows what else bred out of it, whats to say we havent bred out the required things neccessary to properly proccess raw food out of all the dogs, lets remember God made wolves, not GSD's we did that, so are we even sure they can truly handle it
3:what are the main thing YOU do to keep the raw food diet a safe one for ur baby
4: would boiling the food (cooking out harmful bacteria) be any better
5:IN A PEACEFUL WAY, kibble ppl, why dont u agree with Raw food diets

Why I don't feed raw. 
In a peaceful way.

A good quality grain free kibble made by a reputable manufacturer has been the way I have fed my dogs for many many years. I always soak it first then add a bit of homemade stew. Feeding raw food has never been my cup of tea. However, that being said I truly feel it is the best way to feed some dogs. I work full time and have horses and run a farm and I just don't have time to investigate how to feed raw correctly. I believe you just cannot feed raw without adding the appropriate amount of vitamins and minerals etc... Maybe when I retire my girls diet may change, but until then I'll stick with their Back to Basics brand and homemade stew.

RAW bones dont splinter... Bacteria is good for the gut in the right proportion.

Amy, depends on what bones from which animal. Raw bones can splinter and I have see shards of raw bones the length of my pinky finger in dog stools. Arguments about all that stomach acid as strong as battery acid that will digest, and make harmless, splintered bones swallowed by a dog does not always hold true.

If anyone is familiar with youtube do your dog a favor and youtube Dr. Karen Becker D.V.M  and watch her videos on raw food diet and others. Also we must never forget that our animals need a balanced diet no matter what your feeding them. Hope this helps

My reasons for not feeding raw have always been on the lines
laid out by Elkee;  plus: not had time / storage / the owners of 
most of the dogs in my life weren't persuaded;  and while they
fed my dog too, it wasn't financially sensible to treat mine any
differently from those I worked with.

But I agree with Elkee - if you want to do raw, and can get the
balance right so your dogs have everything they need in their
diet,  no reason you shouldn't.  Particularly if you find it actually
suits a dog better than kibble.

I often think this one is like the breast feeding argument, with
human children !   People get polarised believing one side or
the other is right, when the real answer is somewhere in the
middle ...

Raw is not necessarily better if the ingredients you are feeding aren't and better or different than a kibble.  I feed mostly kibble for three main reasons (but I'm very pro-raw feeding and add raw when I have it) 1) We travel a LOT and carting around huge coolers of raw food is impractical or just impossible 2) I don't currently own a chest freezer and thus cannot economically feed raw when I don't have space to store more than 1-2 days of meals at a time and 3) my kibble fed dogs are all very healthy, active, no allergies, only go to the vet every 3 years for a rabies shot so anecdotally speaking I have no evidence that feeding purely raw could possibly make my dogs any healthier than they already are.  I do feed raw when I have it (last night my dogs ate raw venison steaks) and if I can find an old freezer chest or convince my grandpa to give me his I will try to feed raw more consistently at least when we're not traveling.  I costs me $1.34 per pound of premium, LID kibble so if I can do raw for about $1/lb it would be cost saving. I can currently get almost as much venison (steaks, stew, ground, etc) as I want for free but like I said, nowhere to store it.  Anyway, whether you feed raw or kibble or both you have to have an appropriate diet for a dog.  I've seen some wacked out "vegetarian" diets and some completely unbalanced raw diets just as I've seen kibble that I you couldn't pay me to feed my dogs.

When I was switching Brody, I just gave him a larger kibble breakfast and a small amount of raw for dinner. But I only did that for a few days because he had no digestion issues, so I just kind of jumped in.

There have been quite a few times since I started feeding raw when Brody ate kibble at about the same time he ate raw because he was at my mom's house and my mom has kibble lying around for her dog. We've never had any digestion issues.

I really don't know how true that is about not mixing raw and kibble because of digestion rates, but I was always too afraid to experiment with Brody When I think about it, it really doesn't make much sense to me, but I have no idea.
