Will a gsd and doberman get along with each other.....??? - Page 1

I have a 8 months old german shepherd(male). Now am planning to buy a puppy thinking that my gsd will get a company and both will get along without any trouble. The problem is that i dont want to buy one more german shepherd because of its hair shedding. So am thinking about buying a Doberman. Is it a good idea to buy a doberman.....???? Will a gsd and doberman get along with each other.....???? If i am buying it what gender should i buy, male or female......????? please help me.......

Doberman and a female GSD and they get along fine. IMHO a male and female is better.  JMO.

yes, depends. I had a 1 1/2 yr old GSD female spayed, then got about same age female doberman from a friend. There were a few fights at first - mostly over "high value" objects such as a bone or rawhide. The doberman got the worst of it because of her thin skin.  I since learned not to leave high value objects out. !!! duh!!!  Also did quite a bit of training and pack leadership work.

Unless they were to accidently find a bone or extremely high value object, I don't have any worries now. When I first had them it was the doberman trying to steal from the GSD that started the fights. Dobes can be sneaky!

They get along fine, now, and play together. It is harder I think to have 2 females or 2 males get along.

I do like the short hair on the doberman, too, but my GSD doesn't shed to badly, either. just leaves fuzz bunnies around.

this is almost like a question I got from a co-worker of my moms,  she wants a gsd pup,  but had a adult schnauzer girl.  she asked me if the gsd would kill the schnauzer when it grew up.   I asked her how many gsd she had actually been around,lmao!

Dobermans shed as well.The small prickley hairs are a different problem than the longer ,more easly gathered GSD hairs

What makes you think that your GSD needs company?

i was thinking the same thing adi maybe he just wanted another dog but wants something diffrent from the gsd i just hope he knows what he is letting himself in for if he can get a doberman thats been bred well hes got himself a good dog

Yeah, if... not many of those left these days. it's a whole lot harder to find a good doberman then a GSD nowadays.

my gsd is scared of dark. at night it wont go out of the house alone, and i have a yard of 18cents which require very much attention from my dog at night. if i put him outside my house he will become very sad and lie in front of the door itself. He will only become happy if i open the door or if my cat comes. He likes my cat very much. he will even go out to dark if cat is there. But my cat is a bussy man. he roams arround the whole country doing his own business. he will come home only for having food. Thats why i thought of getting another dog. I dont have much idea abt dogs as this gsd is my first dog. If doberman is not good then which breed will be good(am from India, so suggest any breed which i will get here.).....????
