Jenni78

Though I am proud of many pups I've bred, to me, Brix is "the one that got away." Every day I kick myself for selling him, though at the time, it was the best thing I could do for him. He has a great home where his "unique" personality is appreciated (thank the Lord) and is doing well, but I miss him all the time. I had him until he was several months old. I knew right away he was "special" and had to make sure he was properly placed .

Anyway, a few have asked for "B" litter updates lately, so I figured I'd just post him. He will be a year old next week.

Please tell me at what age did you recognize he was special, I know you produce some real good GSDs so what makes him special? Thanks

Well, Ibrahim, I use the term "special" kind of humorously. He was a fighter from the get-go, and really, all those pups were. But Brix had "something" about him, an air of mischief, a confidence about him seldom seen in pups that age. What really impressed me was that I was not able to find an obstacle that would upset him or slow him down. There was nothing he wouldn't go through, nothing that would make him quit. He was out of the whelping box by 2 weeks, which is normal for Capri pups, but when I would put them in an X pen, he would be scaling it in no time. You know how puppies will sometimes get frustrated and sit and whine or bark at you when they can't do something or are afraid to? He never did it. He just moved onto plan B if something didn't work the first time and never lost sight of his objective. He was obviously extremely intelligent, as they all were. He was just "more"- more obnoxious, more determined (though Bravo gave him a run for his money when it came to eating!), etc.

I threw him out of the house at 5 weeks old one day because I was trying to clean the floor and he is pretty hard on a mop. I expected him to sit on the deck and cry at the door and watch me. Instead, he climbed down the long flight of stairs outside, (second story deck) walked all the way around the house (long way) and up onto the front porch, where he proceeded to howl and scratch at the door. He wasn't going to quit. I don't think taking that kind of determined journey upon yourself as a 5 week old puppy is common.

He always had a fierce determination about everything he did. When they were moved to a bigger outside kennel, he began to scale the chain link. He was just shy of 5 weeks old and would climb at least 3-4' up, hang there,  and then bark like a machine gun at me. I guess he thought maybe I would notice him if he was taller, lol. The owner of Bravo, his littermate, came to visit them. He said about Brix "He's sure going to be a lot of trouble when he gets older."

He is a bit independent, quite serious about things, and needs someone to stay a step ahead of him all the time and keep him in check, or he could be a real problem. I got into some battles with him around 3-4mos. He will fight tooth and nail when it's something he strongly believes in, LOL. I hear he is still like that.

You can get an idea of how relentless he was/is by that little video clip of him at 4.5-5 weeks. I think they look older than that, as focused as they are, but that's just how Capri pups are. But you can see that mud and water as deep as he is tall do nothing to slow him down. He has tenacity and character.

Can you tell I LOVE this boy? Both other pups are in great homes, too. I just ended up keeping him longer because the reservations didn't line up with what I had. Everyone wanted a female out of Capri and I only had 3 pups, 2 males.

Thank you, Vikram. I like his structure very much.

Thanks Jenni and yes he's special, I was specially impressed with the journey he took at 5 weeks, that was courageous and shows serious determination at very young age. Thanks again for telling us so much about him, your words show how much you love him and yes he is something to be proud of, congratulations.

Thank you, Ibrahim. I like to analyze behavior quite a bit, too. And I write too much. blush

I wonder if I could coax his owner on here to say a few words about him.................

Yes it would be lovely to hear how he's doing nowadays and compare with some of the traits he showed at babyhood, that would really be very nice, try to convince the owner please.

He is very intelligent looking!
What plans do they have for him?
I love his stocky build!

I hate that you can't keep all the pups, and sometimes you need about 2 years to decide if they are THE PUP!!!!

I'm sure he's having a great time with his family, he looks awesome!

How much does he weigh?

Hi Mirasmom,

Thank you. I knew he was "THE pup" but unfortunately got hit with a major personal issue right then and he was just too good to sit around waiting for me to be able to do something with him. Not only that, but he was the kind that needed to be worked immediately, before he became a real problem child. His owner works him daily, I believe, starting quite early in the morning, and he still has to be on his toes, apparently. This is a boy who knows what he wants devil.

He weighs 72lbs; I love how short-coupled and stocky he is - he was always very strong for his size.

He is being worked in agility currently. Maybe some SchH down the road?

I will breed to him if all goes well. I just hope I get a nice enough bitch;-)
