Petros

I own a female sired by Whisky which is of ecxellent character and tamperament however her conformation could be much better. Is is 63cm high and her angulation behind as well as her croup are quite poor. She is also quite streched. Does it worth it to breed her and what would you suggest as a stud? It would be a shame for this tamperament to go in the garbage... Thank you all in advance for your answers.

Hi I have a daughter from whisky, she was sg173 this last seiger show, my openion in regards to the description of the female what you are saying is, first try to analise why she is like that try and find out from the pedigree which dominent geans has made her look like that, it is sometimes from the mother line also this, post a picture of her to have a look unless and until one sees her it will be difficult to answer the question

you do not say her age what work have you given her if you give her the correct road work it will improve her hind angulation and make her croup look better to also have you had her hips done before you start to breed her as for stud dog think what she lacks and pick a dog that is going to inprove on these things

Petros, Who is the mother? Did you have the pleasure of meeting her in person? Maybe shes the one that produced that in your bitch.

I agree with the other replies. A dog has a father and a mother! All faults are not necessarily the father's fault. If you want to breed with her, try and find a correct dog to mate her to, i.e. a dog of correct size, well laid croup of good length and good angulations. And then accept that it might take more than one generation to iron out all the problems, but by keeping the best puppy from the litter for further breeding you will get there!

Hi i am interested in Shostrings reply about roadwork improving croups and hind angulation. Could someone enlarge on this or explain how this works please?

by pzdc on 16 April 2006 - 20:04

Nothing is going to improve either the hind angulation or the croup. Certain exersizes may improve the hind THRUST, though. You can build power by walking uphill, swimming or gaiting in loose sand. Never allow her to run uncontrolled and never downhill. The idea is to exersize against resistance in order to develop the muscles to compensate for the shortcoming in the skeleton. Hope it helps! Good luck.

Hi John9 the training i discused is the way we train our dogs as it tightens and develops the muscles and makes the dog use the hind quarters and the dog drops in the bach end makes the croup look better and develops the hind angulation gives the dog very good shape to i know swimming is very good to but if you have a dog that is up in the back this training is the best hope this helps
