Well, here I go, being different from the the rest of the crowd.

While I agree that body clipping is the wrong way to go I feel that the Furminator is fantastic.

I've not experienced any negative problems using the furminator.  So in my opinion it is the way to go.

I love my furminator, too. I use it during the worst of the coat blowing season, like now, but I have to wait for nice weather. Why? So much fur comes off, I wait to do it outside because I hate my vaccuum. If I was showing my dog I might feel different, but for us, it works great. I suppose someone could wreck a coat using it improperly but they really have to not be paying attention to what they are doing, IMO.

Also, I bag up most of the hair or we'll be eating it within the vegetables I like to grow. I do leave bits of clumps here or there in the bushes for the birds to use for lining their nests.

ive been a groomer for 30 yrs now. DONT SHAVE YOUR GSD. they need that coat to protect them from the heat and sun. plus the coat will grow in HORRIBLE and it will be more of a problem for u.

i would reccommend using a slicker brush to loosen the hair, then the oster undercoat rake.

i also use the furminator on my stock coats but it does cut the hair.  3 x a week durning shedding season will do the trick.

i too brush them outside and let the hair blow for the birds to use.
