Hi, I am sorry to tell you that if the ears aren't up by now (1.2 years old) they will not stand at all. The ears should have been taped / posted by 7 months at the latest. There may be a surgical proceedure to have supports inserted in the ears... but I do not know anyone who has it done. Good Luck.

As Kizz said, it is probably too late. But if you would like to try...you can use pink foam curlers and place them just above the bumps in the ears. Take out the hard plastic clasp first though. You should use automotive weather stip glue by 3M to secure them, If you can find all of that in Romania. It is the easiest way, as taping leaves a real mess and pulls off their hair. Good Luck Deb

Sorry to hear about your dog. I know there is a procedure where silcone is used to correct this fault, you should consult your vet. I am curious, did you speak to the breeder about this?

Hi Sean, I am curious... can you tell me who and where you heard this proceedure has been done with the silicone, thats great if it works and is safe! Thanks

Hallo everybody Aren’t’ you all forgetting something. It is not allowed or good policy, to correct the ears on a German shepherd. If you correct the ears and then use the dog in breeding, some future puppy owners can get the same problem. Why don’t you accept that not all dogs can bee world champions or breeders and love them as they are?

I agree with Jackpot on this one. My GSD has one soft ear (he was already 13 months when I bought him) and I love him unconditionally. He may not be show ring material because of it but you can still do sport or protection with him. So my advice is just love him for who he is because he loves you for who you are.

Where does it say "not allowed or not good policy" to correct the ears? Also, the ears may not stand for MANY MANY other reasons other than genetics! For those who spend top dollar on a show puppy that may or may not ever be used for breeding, and the ears need a little support...... then do everything you can to support those ears and always discuss it with the breeder. I think all of us love our GSD's no matter what.... Plus... how many VA, V or SG dogs do you think have had taped or posted ears all over the world.... A LOT OF THEM!!

Hi Kizz. I think that you have got it all wrong. The FCI standard for GSD is quite clear about this matter: No cosmetic manipulation or surgery is allowed if you want to participate in a formal show under the wings of FCI or SV. And there is a good reason: Many countries does not follow WUSV regulations, and it is common to use GSD's in breeding only based on a result from a show. And using dogs with genetic faults means that you will never discover the problem. So in fact you just export the problem to the next generation - and the only winner is the Vet., who has'nt the ethics in place - whitch means: Performing the operation, and make a note in the pedigree, that breding is not allowed for this dog. But Oti, I'm sure, that you only adress your question because of cosmetic reasons. Of course you have no intentions to use your dog in breeding. I am sure that you can use some of the sugestions put forward to you on this homepage. And by the way, Kizz -IF, as you claim, some people try to fool the rest of the world - does that legalize other people to follow the same track? Oti - I wish you many happy hours with the most beautifull working dog in the world.

I agree with Kizz. There are many reasons for ears not to stand, or stay up other than genetics. Stress, illness, growth pattern, diet. And I say diet, because the bones can be growing so fast with certain diets, that the ears aren't a priority. They just need a little support. Putting rollers in a puppy's ears isn't doing anything against any rules or regulations. Just protecting your investment!
