Does anyone know how much it costs to send hip X-rays directly to Germany. I think it would be much faster to send them myself rather than having to go through the USA office, also I suspect USA may be charging way to much money. OFA only charges $25.00, why does USA cost so much money? Has anyone / does anyone simply send in their own X-rays to Germany? Thanks

I had emailed the SV about doing this direct since I know you can get paperwork direct from them and bypass USA. Their response, submit to USA, that they don't accept them directly.

Yes, the SV does accept xrays sent directly to them (to bypass USA). To do this, you have to be a MEMBER of the SV (you join cheaply without actually having to subscribe to the magazine). Just tell the SV to charge it to your credit card. The turn-around time is very fast. Many people do this.

Louise, Thanks so much for the information. Can you please post how to join them and how you've done this before. I'm sure that a lot of people would be very grateful. Frankly, I'm not sure why there is such a huge delay with USA?

I was always told you had to live in Germany in order to be a member of the SV. I did see a form on their site, but once you fill it out, it doesn't submit the info, returns an error. I would like that link myself! Have a little girl I just got from Germany and I would rather just send the xrays direct.

Got to http://www.schaeferhund.de/sv_start.htm and click on "mitgliedschaft online" . You don't have to live in Germany to be a member. They'll need your creditcard number. I don't think you can subscribe without the magazine, but there are two options normal post (can take up to 8 weeks) for €15,- extra, or air for €42,-

Im from India.... can you please tell me in, is it possible for me to be a member of the SV? and what is this about sending the xrays to SV. does it mean that being members of the SV we can register our dogs and litters with them?

by merfelderbruch on 03 July 2003 - 18:07

to Louise: I never heard before that you can join the SV without subscribing to the magazine and that all you need to be is a member of SV to submit xrays directly to them. Who provided you with this information? To my knowlegde you only vetenarians in Germany that are approved by SV can submit xrays to them. It has nothing to do with being a member or not. All that counts is that the dog is xrayed in Germany by a SV-approved vet.

Here's what I was told. I'm a USA and SV member. I have a dog born in Germany, pink papered. My vet took the x rays in accordance with the a stamp program guidlines. Tattoo nr., dog's name, vet name, etc. on the film. Since the dog was born in Germany. I figured lets send the x rays there. I think the fee is 30.00. Before I sent them, I talked to the SV. Since I'm in the US. The SV says send them to USA. This seems to be the SV's position on most matters. They originally told me I could send them directly to them, but later changed. I was concerned that the x rays will be in some pile while my dog is standing in the ring in Ulm. I have heard the USA a stamp program is as slow as their pink papers are. Has anyone else had an expierience??

Yes, you can join the SV without the magazine. Costs ~$25-30. Call or email the SV if you have any questions. I know plenty of breeders (American members of the SV) who send their xrays (and credit card information) directly to the SV for the "a" stamp. I have never done it. I have not yet joined the SV--and will surely want the magazine when I do. I guess about the the best I can do is to have you email me privately so that I may direct you to some of these people. However,I can't guarantee that they will take time to reply to you. Maybe someone else out there can fill you in on the particulars. To Visum: no, you cannot register litters or dogs directly with the SV. In the USA, the FCI recognizes the AKC as the only official GSD breed registry. Hence, dogs must be AKC registered before applying for USA/SV registration. Louise M. Penery riesenblut@sbcglobal.net
