 THAT is horrible.
Why do judges or whomever is in charge of these events, allow dogs like that to even participate?
Is that what HD looks like?   I strongly suspect that the honor system, or whatever is being used, isn't working and I think it should be illegal to breed such a crippled dog.   I am new to this breed and I can tell you, had I known about this crap, and had I seen such films, I would have never switched breeds and I would have stayed with Doberman's.

Let's breed MORE! Yeah! They are so pretty. Who really cares if they can runor not? Keeps them closer to the fireplace and taking them on walks through the neighborhood aren't neccesary. The best of both worlds, pretty and easy to take care of.

Very grim. If you haven't seen it, here's a link to the original video: http://www.workingdogvids.com/view/1775/pedigree-dogs-exposed-part-1-of-6

The German Shepherd segment begins at about 7 minutes, 15 seconds in. The filmmakers split-screen an image of Horand von Grafrath with the ataxic show line GSD and then a Crufts judge explains that modern show line dogs, not working line dogs, more closely represent the German Shepherd breed standard.

It looks like it hurts the dogs to move. It's really a shame that we humans can't leave a breed like it is. We have to make them look disfigured in order for them to be "show" quality.

I'm no expert at conformation  shows, but from what I' ve seen, those dogs are the standard.  I thought I was going to see dogs that were so crippled that they could barely walk.  As with most  angulated showline shepherds, from what little that I know, they were just cowhocked and long in the stifle, to name a few faults.  Do you really think that the RSPCA, Dogs Trust and PDSA  didn't already know what comformation sheps look like.  This has been going on for years.  Now that someone has shown this to people outside of the "ring world" the government (the BBC) and others want to act like they are so suprised and shocked, while all along some of them probably have some dog that is just as overangulated and cowhocked with too long a pastern that they overpaid for just because they were told that this dog came from a long line of champions.  Never mind the fact that their dogs probably couldn't protect them if need be, bearing in mind what they have been bred for.  Overall I think that they moved ok, considering their build and being amateurs.  Believe me, I've seen a lot worse.                                                                                                      Love and Peace,    Marcia
