Pharaoh

by Pharaoh on 28 December 2008 - 17:12

Thanks Daryl,

I always appreciate your knowledge, honesty and decency.  We are looking for different things.

I am mostly a pet home with a little bit of Schutzhund thrown in.  A super sport dog would be wasted on me.  I am a mediocre, at best, handler and a world competition level dog would probably not fit in to the life I have to offer a dog.  Pharaoh is way more high prey drive than I was expecting or used to.  This has caused me to expand my dog management skills.  For one hin he is very eager and powerful and someone has to hold the line behind me so I don't topple. What a sight that would be, ... middle aged woman falls on face at Shutzhund field.

It is a good thing that he is not my first German Shepherd, he is not a beginner dog.

I hope it goes well too, but, then again, don't we all?

Hi Jade,

Brave of you to speak up.  There are a pack of jackals ready to attack when certain dogs are mentioned.

I think Sven is a strong dose and makes a very good Grandfather in a pedigree.  Pharaoh is way higher prey drive than I ever was looking for.  My experience with DDR dogs is lower prey drive and stronger defense.

Oh well, life is what happens when you are busy making plans.

I took my boy to the vet today for a checkup and rabies shot.  She was amazed at how well put together (Tree Trunk Legs and non-extreme topline) and good solid temprament he has.  She is used to seeing what she called "squirrely" GSD's and she wanted to know where he came from.

How old is your black Sven grandaugher?  Has she been xrayed yet?

"I think I'd be uncomfortable about it, but hope it goes well.  Ahron produced a few good'uns, so he was the first example that came to mind.  In my experience, DDR dogs can't offer the full package for me, and there are few crosses being developed.  It's difficult to find DDR dogs without seven or so particular sires, that are just a rehash of the same limited genepool, but I believe they have something to offer the rest of the breed."

I could not agree more with this statement! I love what the DDR dogs USED to be. I LOVE my full DDR male out of import parents. He actually happens to be a Sven grandson, as well. He is my heart dog and loves to work, but he is a club level dog at best. He's 22 months old and I've had to REALLY take my time with him and be extra cautious in his training.

I feel the DDR dogs of today are such a convuluted representation of what they once where, that it's very hard to find one that has the total package. I think outcrosses are fantastic though!

The other problem is, because of their looks, they are primarily bred as pets now and tend to just be used as profit-yielding business to most.

Britney P,

"I LOVE my full DDR male out of import parents."

Both of Pharaoh"s parents were imported as adults, titled, hips & elbows certified, and breed surveyed.  His parents are both very stable easy to live with dogs.  I drove 13 hours twice to spend time with them.

I am NOT world class handler material.  A super sport dog would be wasted on me.  I will be a raging success if we make it as a club level team.

I do agree with Daryl wholeheartedly that our DDR descended dogs have a lot to offer the rest of the breed.

Kim at Just K9s has a really nice Showline female that she has bred twice to her full DDR male (Alk grandson).  I think it is a wonderful combination.

Dear Wuzzup,

Please translate. "There is a fix in the mix.I have known it for years.Although a pure DDR is wonderfull to own."

I am not arguing with you.  I enjoy many of your posts and often I learn very interesting things from you.

What is a "fix in the mix"?

Is my assumption that you are saying something about Sven or is it my puppy Pharaoh or Pharaoh's mom and dad?

Are we talking - fake pedigree - or - fake titles - or - complete "Doppleganger".........

I don't want to fight, and I think you know that I treat people nicely even when I disagree or have a vastly different point of view. That is because I generally like people and dogs.

Please, please, please tell me.

You can PM me if it is something you don't want to get into with everyone.

Sincerely,

Michele

NO The fix in the mix could be with mixing the DDr dogs with the show lines of today and getting a well rounded good tempered dog. That someday may be able to win in the show ring and also do a good job at sport work sars herding all jobs a good german shepherd should do .I love your   dog and i do not really know anything about sven.I get alot of grief every time I mention  mixing show lines with DRR lines  that's all         Jeanne  P.S my computer is a little slow tonight and doing it's own thing so bear with me ..

It's some of the show lines I think are broken and could use the fix..I never plan to show.I do not expect this fix overnight.I'm talking years and years of hard work and dedication for this to work.I'm sure I will get nailed to the cross for this opinion .Had you not said you have seen it done successfully I would have kept my thoughts about it to myself.
