Today my 9 year old gsd did something strange, what he did is killed a mice and started playing with it, i:e rolling over and over the mice as if he wanted to cover himself with the dead body's scent, also few years back he had a tendency to attack strangers without any warnings and without any bark if found in his territory which was corrected by offering food by either friends or acquaintances.he never attacks on humans anymore but still tries it on other animals. Could anybody solve mystries of such behaviour. Is it all in the genes? can somebody explain?

Anand, Your dog is doing something that her instinct makes her to. Rolling in smelly things/dead animals is a tradition/habit in wolves. Dogs do this because it is instinct; this rolling is supposed to mask the scent of the dog itself which was once useful as a camouflage from predators when hunting for food. No one exactly knows why but it may also be because the dog wants others in the pack (Here the pack is you and your family) to know that she has caught something and that this is her sole possession To correct this behavior, Keep a constant eye on her and say a stern ‘NO’ or any restrictive command that she associates with, and in a while she will learn that you don’t like what she does You could also try pairing something unpleasant with her actions of rolling, like squirting her with a water when she is about to roll or so somthing that you feel is unpleasant What amazes me is that your dog started doing this at the age of 9. Surprise.
