ok i am going to have all the dog tested...I have the wrong antibiotic. I had put her on antibiotics for 14 days when she was 30 days in and we still lost the litter, well all but one. Thanks for the new info. For all those people who didn't go read about this here is a link that I found http://www.working-retriever.com/library/mycobrown.html Heather

A big yes on the Mycoplasma testing but we found it in our male as well... and he had never been bred before, I routinely test for brucella, males and females So, it's a good idea to test the male if he is yours as well!! Het... am I understanding that you put your bitch on antibiotics when she was 30 days into her pregnancy... just a caution there are numerous drugs that are safe during that time but also a good number that are not..... what did you put her on, I'm just curious...

hexe.. wow ya know i never heard anyone personally not test for it.. so "amended it is" :) i just cant even imagine why someone would not test.. its CRAZY why the heck would anyone breed to any animal even "in house" if they dont know for sure! As for Mycoplasma, males sure as heck can get it, Dkia, give it and be damaged for life as well. Bitches get it from the ground... from breedings.. its a VERY controversal topic to some. a Bitch/dog can be born with it getting it from the dam. Yep... sure can. It can, however, be treated VERY successfully with CHLORO TABS... i wouldnt waste time using normal doxycylene or something like that. Het, Mycoplasma is part of the normal flora of the female reproductive tract in dogs, and is normally present in low numbers. So a report of "few mycoplasma" raises no red flags with vets. They worry when the culture comes back moderate or many, or if the bitch has had serious reproductive failures in the past. Het, i think you would be doing the right thing checking for Mycoplasma, however, Cultures taken during estrus are more representative of what's actually going on in the uterus. consult your local Repro Vet and see what they suggest. Some regular Vets arent even aware of "Mycoplasma" cultures... it takes about 2 weeks for the culture to be done correctly. Heather, i am sorry to hear of your troubles... but it makes us more aware of what is "out there" i have my own sweetie girl with whom i have learned more in 1 yr than i ever could learn in regards to breeding problems and early heat seasons and mycoplasma. although costly and she is worth EVERY DIME... it has made me very aware how important PRE breeding care is and now NEXT TIME when i buy a bitch ready to breed to ASK A MILLION QUESTIONS from where they came from and who owned them and what testing has been done and SHOW ME the testing!!!!! I was AMAZED the owners of her before my co owner, didnt even test her for ANY THING and they knew she had breeding difficulties.. had they tested her THEN for Mycoplasma she wouldnt have lost 6 puppies and wouldnt have had such troubles!!! Just plain selfish and stupid!!! Best Regards, Dawnmarie

This is kind of on/off topic but we experienced this problem years back. So I thought I'd bring it up here. Anyone who uses Heartguard should read this story. http://www.devinefarm.net/reporter/new_page_12.htm Birdy...

Dawnmarie, Where do I get the cholro tabs at. Is this a have to order from the vet pill. I will need about 300 pills to treat everone. We have tested for everything else, this is not the first dog to do this to me this year...we have been trying to figure it out. My vet thinks that I should just go ahead and treat everyone as we have elimitated so many other things already. I have a female that is due to come in season next month and she did absorb her last litter all but one again...she normally has nice big healthy litters with no problems at all. I was going to order the doxicylene and start them all on it, but if I can get this stuff and it works better then I will.

Yes, please Dawnmarie--I'd love to know the source as well for the same reasons as Het. Also, thanks Birdy. Oddly I'd heard anecdotal evidence re Ivomect/heartgard and female repro problems--interesting that it may affect males as well.
