Hey Kyle,  Check out this breeder,  http://www.van-brandevoort.tk/   , super nice dogs with video.  But you and a lot of other people are missing something.  There is the Sport of Schutzhund and there is the Methodology of Schutzhund training.  All dog sports come from schutzhund.  The palisade in in ring sport is from schutzhund.  The methodology of schutzhund is always evaluating your dog and introducing new stimuli.  You can put a dog on a bitesuit and not lose your discipline for schutzhund.  Cross training breaks up the routine of schutzhund and the boardom that the dog may slip into. 

Most KNPV dogs come from Schutzhund dogs. Igor vom Herdgang has produced both.  good luck with your search. Let us know how you make out.

I live in Russia and for a long time I`ve been looking for a dog that would be able to fight not the sleeve but the man behind the sleeve. I think I`ve found what I`ve been looking for. It`s Erko von der Zahnburg:

The first day the little guy came to his new home in Moscow at the age of 6 months he "killed" my old sofa (after the flight from the USA through Germany to Russia!!!) and started growling at me when I tried to save at least something.

When in a couple of days one of the best Russian decoys came to have a look at Erko and tried to agitate Erko with a cloth, this little warrior was much more interested in the man`s body (at the age of 6 months!). After a short attack they were both sitting motionless looking into each other`s eyes for a minute or two...

KTaylor, sorry, the breeder`s name is Art Shaw. (It`s 5 o`clock in the morning in Moscow and I`ve been translating Armin Winkler`s article for our trainers and didn`t sleep a wink yet.)  We`ve never met in person, but my impression after this  purchase is that Art is a breeder you can trust. First I got Erko`s  AKC Pedigree and Purchase Agreement and only after that the dog was shipped.

Thank you everyone for the great responses.  I have received some feedback and commentary and I just wanted to state that I understand that there are some Schutzhund dogs that are real, but I have also seen a few Sch 3 dogs that score well but wouldnt protect my wife or I should the need ever arise.  I just feel that I may find more of what I am looking for if I went with a pup with a strong pedigree of KNPV dogs.

Cate- at this time, I am just considering GSDs.  I have had 2 mals that I placed with PDs and now co-own a mal with another of my club members (stays in his kennel).  I like the drives and the aggression with the mals that I have had, but they are certainly more difficult to live with than the shepherds.

German Shepherds don't do well in KNPV, Mals/ Mal crosses and Dutch crosses rule that arena.

Even the PH1 German Shepherds that are there are mostly flukes with almost all including and past the second generation being Sch or IPO titled.
