Would a birth mark on a babies butt have any more meaning ??
by steve1 on 05 October 2008 - 18:10
I do not think it has any meaning at all . i mean black spots on a Dogs Tongue, It will not make it a champion or anything like it
I think it is a hereditary trait, which i would guess is a resscive characteristic,
If so it can can up pop up or stay away in past and future generations

Radar has a black spot on his tongue, and he is certainly a special boy!

There was a thread about this a few weeks back!
Many years ago, I was told the "old wives tale", that you never got a bad temperament if the dog had a black spot on its' tongue... why that should be is anyone's guess. Both my boys have black spots on theirs.

Back in my old country black gums, or spots on a toung meant that the dog is going to be super hard, could be concider even aggressive by many. So yeah I don't think the balck spot mean anything excpect it makes people think lol :). My new girl has it.

This thread reminds me of the old chestnut about horses:
One white leg buy'em
two white legs try'em
3 white legs and a snip on the nose
knock 'em on the head and feed 'em to the crows.
There's always been folk lore about markings and such. Chows and I think Shar Pai have black tongues... the other breed that was mentioned was the Chinese Crested (which comes in hairless or Powderpuff btw).
Like most posters I've had Shep's with black spots... including some of the Whites I've owned

My boy Link had black spots on his tongue and didn't think much of it. He was a dark sable long stock coat, beautiful pigmentation. If I'm not mistaken, I swear I read on this PDB that black spots on the tongue meant they carried the solid black gene. My boy's mother was a solid black and father was a black sable.
