It never ceases to amaze me how much some people will bitch about something that costs them NOTHING.

For pete sake,  hocbulldogs, just ask admin to change the editor to you if you own the dogs. You don't need to have the pedigrees deleted. The same thing happened to me and about a million other members. You have a chance to make it right, so......make it right.

If you didn't enter the dogs and are not the creator - you will not be able to delete them - if they have progeny - you will not be able to delete them.

The great thing is if you ask for editor/creator status - you will be the only one who can edit them and therefore no one can make changes but YOU.

Wow, I can't believe the turn this discussion has taken!

A pedigree is useless unless it connects the dogs up with as many of its ancestors as possible.

When I purchased my female, Star, neither her sire nor her dam were on the database. It would have looked pretty stupid if I'd entered her name in the database, and just let it sit there on its own. So, I started by adding her sire and dam, and as much info about them as I was able to find. Her sire was a German dog, a son of the great Ursus von Batu, the 2000 Sieger. No problem there! I just entered her sire, and hooked him up with Ursus, and the whole German side of the pedigree showed up, pretty much complete right back to Horand!

The dam's side (American) was a different story...

Her dam was sired by Dallas (Kismet's Sight for Sore Eyes). Dallas is one of the most influential American sires of the last few decades, so once I got his name in there, things started to look a lot better, though I did have to fill in a few gaps here and there.

Her dam, Imp Cen's Wings of Grace, was not in the database, and neither were any of her ancestors. I got lucky: I found the Imp Cen website, which had pedigrees for all of their dogs, and began filling in the gaps:

http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/german_shepherd_dog/dog.html?id=523410-impcens-shilohs-song&p=7-generation-pedigree

I've left out Dallas, because his pedigree was pretty much complete. This is Star's grand-dam, the dog that was mated to Dallas.

I was responsible for entering most, if not all of the dogs from the following kennels

Imp Cen

Kummervoll

Shiloh

Campaigner

Zimmerweg

Emmview

Jac-a-Lor

Sonnenbachtal

Hexemgasse

Greglaus

Galewynd

Beech Hills

Danlyn

Cara Mia

I also entered Shaunyan's Dawn Til Dusk, who linked the pedigree up with Falko von Celler Schloss, and through her, many of the early American foundation kennels (Long Worth, Rocky Reach, San Miguel, etc.) and also with the very influential import, the 1937 Sieger Pfeffer von Bern. (Okay, there are several lines to Falko in the pedigree, but this one turned a very frustrating dead end into something meaningful.) Oh, and BTW, the owner of Falko was (at the time) still posting on the database.

Was it a lot of work? You'd better believe it!

Was it worth it? HELL, YES!!  Where dogs are concerned, we have no idea where we are going with the breed if we can't see where we've come from! And I would much rather have my dog's name up there posted by someone else than not posted at all!

Blue frost helped me understand why I was locked out of a ped of a dog I bought as a pup and was the first to create and enter the single dogs full name with a picture and hip rating,it was because the breeder first entered the entire litter on pedigree database with the sire name dam,s name and kennel name, thats why entire litters revert back to being locked under the breeder that first entered the entire litter from the start.

Bundishep, first off, Blue Frost isn't the Explainer--for that, you need to address GSD Admin, as was requested...and doing it in the thread isn't likely to get an answer very quickly.

Second, go back to page 1 and start from the beginning of this thread, and you'll see why you, along with the rest of us, were locked out of pedigrees we created--and you can then blame it on the asshats who used pedigrees as weapons for real or imagined grievances they had against other people.

All you have to do is send a PM to Blue Frost with the name of the dog you need to be able to access, and your rights will be re-established, capisce?

I realize it's hard to catch up when one finds oneself entering in the middle of a conversation. Teeth Smile

Thank you for bringing up the issue Bundishep; it may help clarify for others.

Possible that a duplicate pedigree of your pup was entered, and the duplicate entry had been combined/deleted during pedigree site maintainance. With your dog, the litter owner entered the pups and their pedigrees, so editing stayed with that user.

Editing ability of a dog's information, sire and dam, stays with the original/first creator of that dog's entry.

Please PM any transfer requests, or questions about them, will respond asap.  Please include the dog's name, and the link to their page if you are able. Happy to assist, no such thing as silly questions, please ask away.

Thank you to everyone for your patience.
