I will stick by what I said.

If you created the pedigree before Oli started tracking the creator (and I am not sure when that was) then you might not be able edit it. If you however entered a dog that was already in the database and it was combined with a dog already in the database - well no you would not be the creator. The first person who entered that dog would be the creator. Lineage has a tool she can run to combine like named dogs and the first one who entered the pedigree is probably going to be the editor. So far I have seen a lot of dogs with Oli as the creator.

Yes, you can set here and say what a mess - I get it. But it simply isn't true. Is it an inconvience to some, possibly, but we did this to stop the messes. I am guessing you never had your dogs pedigree messed with but had you had someone screw with it - I am pretty sure you would be singing a different tune. You could have easily sent me a PM with the dogs you wanted edit rights to and by now the dogs would be yours to edit.

We did this for a reason and not just to cause you or anyone problems. It had to be done. Think of it as an extra layer of security. I use paypal a lot and I had paypal send me a FOB that gives me a number so I can use it to log in. Is it an extra step (yes) but it is there in case someone comes up with my password. Had it happen and lost a couple thousand dollars (which was covered under fraud protection) could I have just changed my password (yes) but it doesn't really solve the problem. I could post my paypal user name and password right here and no one could log into my account. believe it or not this is just an extra layer of protection to protect the pedigrees. Does it stop anyone from updating a pedigree (yes) and that is what it is meant to do.

I hope in the future a member will just go to the dog and click a button/link and we will receive a request to change the dog into your name. Very simple and very easy but that system is not in place as of yet so we are dealing with what we have and what Oli has given us.

Please send all transfers to

Send personal message to Blue Frost (admin)

she will now be doing all the transfers and helping Lineage with pedigree issues.

BTW, if you have complaints about this new system please DO NOT send them to Blue Frost, please send those to me. She is not going to answer the WHY she is there to change the creator status and help members through that process. I am going to instruct her if she gets complaints to tell members to contact me. She had absolutely no decision in the locking of pedigrees and therefore should not have to answer to it. Oli and I made the decision so please address those concerns and complaints to me.

I have dogs that were produced by me, added to the database by the breeder whose male I used to promote his stud. He stole pictures from my website & does not own any of the dogs he posted. He did ask of this without my permission. While I can understand locking the pedigrees to stop malicious tampering cases such as this will surely become prominent. I'm in the process of having these pedigrees deleted.

So, instead of DELETING the pedigrees why not just ask for permission to ediit them as the owner of the dogs. REMEMBER that the owner of the pedigree is not always going to be the owner of the dog. The owner of the pedigree is the one who made the pedigree, a total stranger may make a pedigree of any dog.
This Database has been made by thousands of people who try to fill in information either to be helpful or because it somehow relates to a dog they have or are interested in.

Over the years I have made several myself of dogs that I have not owned We all benefit to have these pedigrees as complete as possible.

People need to stop bitching. I have asked for 2 to be updated/fixed/put into my name and they were both done extremely quickly- way faster than I'd expect.

hocbulldogs, I'm curious about a few things--

1--Are the photos the person you refer to 'stole' from your website being used to represent dogs other than the actual dog in the picture?

2--Are the pedigrees that person posted of dogs he doesn't own accurate?

3--What on earth makes you think YOU own ANY dog's pedigree?  For example, I can quite readily order a copy of any dog's pedigree from the AKC, if I have the dog's registered name and AKC registration number--which I can obtain from show catalogs, accurate pedigrees posted on sites like this as well as others, and other places that might contain that information.  You may well own a particular dog, but you cannot own his heritage, because it is not exclusive to your dog--you don't necessarily own his parents, siblings, grandparents, half-siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins and so forth.

4--I highly doubt that the person who used photos of your dogs in pedigrees of those dogs would be viewed as having 'stolen' them from a legal angle, since YOU published them in the public domain--the Internet--and even if you hadn't, he is not likely to 'profit' from said photos in any significant manner. I expect this is covered, at least in the US, under the 'fair use' doctrine, so you're without a leg to stand on in that regard.  If, however, you find such use so objectionable, why would you not have disabled the ability for anyone to copy them from the web? It's not that difficult to do...anyone who designs and creates a web site ought to know how to accomplish that restriction, after all...

and lastly....

5--What harm comes from your dogs' pedigrees and photos being posted in a database such as this, so long as that information is accurate, and you have the ability to control any changes made to them readily available to you?

Sorry, but it comes off as either petty whining, or not wanting anyone to actually know anything about the dogs you've produced, i.e., being ashamed or not wanting to be associated with one's own dogs. I'm all for the pedigrees being locked if that's what it takes to keep jackholes from using them as tools of revenge, aggravation and embarassment, but beyond that, I don't see the harm of an accurate pedigree, with photos the dog's owner thought sufficiently representative as to have posted them on the Web themselves, on anyone's breeding program.
