As for meaty bones, when I don't have any in the freezer from animals I processed myself, we go to the slaughter house 25 miles away and can buy a huge garbage can completely overflowing with fresh butchered, that day, beef bones of every description for only $25.00. The kicker is we have to transfer from there container to ours up in the back of the pick up truck. So its tedious and time consuming, but there are more bones in the pile than will fit into the big chest freezer...so the supply lasts a long time. But there are huge rib bones, complete legbones, pelvis, shoulder blade, all nice big bones that I can cut to the size I want, usually I use the sawsall to cut the leg bones long ways to expose the marrow.

Vk, you are correct, the best US beef is exported to the highest bidders, usually China. Americans can't compete with paying those prices. As for low quality beef coming to US,...by the time it is ground up, processed with unnamed chemicals and additives for the purpose of creating the 'flavor' many Americans recognize as hamburger, the fast food chains don't care about the quality. Their consern is only for it to be cheap and high quantity for the insatiable gluttonous fast food consumers.

But, vk, as for Americans 'prefering' poor quality beef, that is not correct statement regarding the entire population. I for one, do not eat commercial beef, period. For years we raised our own beef, and I built a meat cooler so I could process the beef myself. I learned that taking nice pasture raised yearling beef to the slaughter house only filled their display cases with top quality beef to sell to the public at premium prices. I got back old, yellow fat tough, disgusting inedible beef that was only fit for the dogs to eat. After seeing old, used up dairy cows standing in the holding pens for slaughter, it wasn't hard to figure out where the crap they packaged, froze and sent home with me, came from. I still don't eat commercial beef, but I'm too old to handle butchering big beef anymore, so goat is the way to go now for home raised and processed red meat.

Yeah but  you raw feeders are talking about meat(s) that have been home grown in some cases and if that were possible to do or even to buy somewhere, that would be great.  Have not found that source here;  all I know is that a lot of local meat markets have meats that come from outside the US.

Call it what you want but don't want to feed fish from China or Indonesia for that matter.  Nan

Western Rider:  thats not a bad price for your raw meats for the dogs;  however if you are talking grocery store/human grade and resturant meats you have to consider that "we" cook our meats, we don't eat them raw.  What remains int he meats from anywhere they come from could be a culprit if someone is having GI problems.

Would  be interested in where you get your meats also, would love to find a good source at somewhat of a reasonable price...Grass fed beef around here goes from $6.00 per pound and up to $22.00 for filet mignon (sorry SP) so that is our of my price range for feeding my dogs raw grass fed beef;  same goes for organic chicken, etc.  That is grocery store prices I am quoting.

Thx for sharing  Nan

My GSD loves the orjen 6 fish...but he would also gladly eat some canned boneless sardines or cooked salmon ...he would take that over a steak. orjen is also nice for the coat and no upset bully's or stools. I've used it for the last 7 or 8 years...no complaints.

Anyone had any luck with "ND" dog food?  Just curious preferrably the Hering protein forumula?  Better prices than some other brands.  Thx in advance...Nan
